Speed Racer

I have to admit to being excited about this film. It's the Wachowski's, who despite the failings of the Matrix sequels are still in the top tier of action filmmakers working today. And I was obsessed with Speed Racer as a kid, especially that car, which was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. It looks like they've been totally faithful to the design--

I can image the first seen of the film:

Speed is sleeping, his cell phone rings (its the old theme song). His father tells him he is late and Speed jumps out of bed and zooms to the speedway.

The Wachowski's, one man, one half-man half-woman, now after the disasterous debacles known as The Matrix Sequels, have chosen their next directing vehicle (no pun intended). Is it an original story that they have spent years honing? No, the Wachowskis have actually decided to sell out and make a studio film. A studio kid's film.

Will Speed Racer be a cross-dresser? Will there be 10 minute scenes of characters esoterically reminiscing about something completely uninteresting and unrelated to the story? Stay tuned folks! Wow, I can't wait!

I wasn't sure about a live action movie, but the Mach5 looks sweet! I also watched the original toon as a kid, and really enjoyed the new animated series even more. I'll be checking out the scoops on this film.

Calling the Matrix sequels DISASTROUS DEBACLES is overstating it. They weren't successful at capturing the appeal of the first film, but there's some good stuff in both of them. Last time I checked, The Matrix 1 was a studio film, and the brothers cut their teeth writing studio crap like ASSASSINS, so they had "sold out" a long time ago...And I don't care what kind of a freak a filmmaker is, as long as they deliver the goods in the movie theater where it counts.

I don't know, this sounds like Speed Racer to me--

SPEED RACER Synopsis

From writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, the creators of the groundbreaking “The Matrix” trilogy, and producer Joel Silver comes the live-action, high-octane family adventure “Speed Racer.”

Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer—whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.

Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line.

The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Yeah, and Batman seemed like a hard character to screw up, but all it took was rubber nipples and down the tube he went.

Not sure what to think. Every boy under 12 will probably go absolutely bug nuts for it, I can guarantee that.

It looks like Star Wars Episode 3 meets 2 Fast 2 Furious meets Rollerball meets 90s remake movie.

The dialogue sounds phenomenal. :thumbdown
