Speed Racer

A couple of illustrators on my last show, worked on 'Speed Racer.'

The action sequences will be very cool and highly elaborate, but they couldn't think of much else to say about it.
 
It sure is a good thing they built that real Mach 5, huh? However could they match it to those scenes otherwise?
 
Hey, at least it looks like the Mach 5. The Knight Rider remake is using a Ford Mustang as the new K.I.T.T.

A Mustang?!?!?!
 
Read a report a while back that said Ice-Cube was to play Michael Knight. I think that's all that needs to be said about that remake.

As for Speed Racer, it looks like its being made for pre-teens to teen crowd. I was kind of hoping for maybe something more.

That's right, because once you start letting them act in our remakes, the next thing you know, they'll want to go to our schools, and then come after our daughters!

Obviously they are playing to a demo that the Hoff never dared tread.

But beyond that, Cube is a great actor and it would actually be a bit of a shame for him to waste his time with something as lame as a Knight Rider remake.

You lost me at Cube is a great actor. As far as I know he has only one facial expression--

Nothing to do with race. I don't think Cube fits that role.
 
I think Cube is competent; not at all a bad actor even if his range is limited. Guy has 24 films to his credit; not the track record of someone without skill.
 
At his best, he is competent. He did a good job in Boyz n The Hood, and was okay in the Friday movies...

One day acting jobs will go to actors...

I thought he was beliavable in Three Kings as well

Let's face it; there aren't many Actors around these days.

Not sure what this means. I mean, Cary Grant had very little range. But you'd have to be an idiot to say he was not a great screen actor. Or Bogart. Or Cagney. Bob Mitchum. These are all people who basically mastered on-screen versions of themselves. Which, in my view, is kind of what screen acting is all about. I think Cube is good at the same. Being himself on camera. Something that is not at all easy to do.

Besides which, in Hollywood, acting jobs will always go to the people they've always gone to: The people who sell tickets.

They are pretty much equal there...Danza might be better by a nose. He did have a successful one man show on Broadway.

...and the Hoff is a singing star in Germany.

So maybe this Ice Cube thing is payback for Hoff's singing career.
 
This Hoff/Danza thing is starting to get a bit creepy -- Hoff starred in "The Producers" in Las Vegas for a while, and when he left the show, who took over for him?

That's right. Tony Danza. Spooooky.

I think Ice Cube is better at playing more mature parts. He was good in Boyz N the Hood and the barber shop movies because he played a more realistic/low key type part. Whereas in XXX and pretty much any movie that required him to be a tough/action type role he was terrible.

Michael Knight needs to be someone who can pull off smooth, corny, and cool at the same time. Cube doesn't do that for me.

well you get no argument from me about XXX.

Actually, they are insane not to just use Hoff. He's a far bigger star and will guarantee HUGE returns on the film.
