Spark Scene File experience

Boy, shot my first footage with Spark enabled as the Scene file, after doing a bit of experimenting. Really much nicer than the default, IMHO. More of a "Kodachrome" look to the footage, vibrant greens and blues (this was a sunny day). Skin tones a bit warmer. I'm hooked. Now to see what it does on dreary days. I'd drop some files out here to show in a few days, but am a bit swamped with shooting/logging right now.

I have similar results with Barry's extreme color setting, which basically crushes blacks and pops chroma. I understand the argument of shooting "neutral" footage so you can color correct in post, but sometimes it's nice to ingest footage that just pops...especially when you're on a deadline.

the default setting should be banned!
i thought my camera was a big expensive piece of crap until i sorted out the scene file issue.
i highly recommend experimenting with the cine-v default if you liked spark.

I've tweaked my default setting to a hybrid between Spark and Cine-V. I honestly spent two weeks in the studio at work in my down time tweaking 'til I got just the look I was going for.

And yes, averan... the default default setting should be banned (unless you know you're going to do heavy post work). Uuuuuuuuuuglyyyyyyyyyy.

IMHO,

The question you have to answer is whether you want to shoot completely neutral and do color and feel in post. Or, adjust the scene files to capture close to what you want for a final result. Both have merit.

I was a fan of spark, but then I found Barry's "Bright" scene file (Film LK 3). Wow. I used it with my new Tiffen Polarizer this past weekend and blew my mind.

I have found Spark Scene to have better color saturation but you lose a bit in contrast. F1 default is stale. The cine files are dark. I think the Scene B-STR file gives the best results.

8String,

I use the "spark" setting on my HPX170 quite a bit. But recently I found a custom something I like a little better. Here is the settings. It seems to loose about a half stop compared to the Spark setting.
