Sound Devices Pix240 is rolling out into Retail

I saw a working model at the Abel Cine store in NYC last week. Not sure if it's just a display model or not.

The model you saw at Abel is the real shipping version-- SD got demos out to their dealers a couple of weeks ago.

Correct, the units on display in our NY & LA showrooms are fully functional models -- and they are demo units not for sale.

We are getting in stock this week I believe, but it is already allocated to clients on our waiting list. Don't expect these units to be "sitting on the shelves" anywhere; if you want to get one sooner rather than later I suggest you get your name on the list.

A heads up for Pix buyers I just learned today. Having seen that the external power connector is a Hirose, I just assumed it would work with the NanoFlash D tap. No such luck. You must buy the Sound Devices XL-AB cable to power via D-tap sources. Also note that SD has just posted the manual on the Pix page.

heh heh.

I was in the same boat, my dealer told me late Jun, Early Jul, etc... so I bought a cinedeck , and haven't looked back

Ed would be great if you could characterize your experience after your shoot. Still haven't heard about whether or not fan noise is an issue particularly if you are shooting with an onboard mic. Also would like to know how responsive it is to timecode triggering, how hot the unit gets over the course of the day, coping with media exchange during the shoot. Essentially all the boring attributes that are really important when the unit is being used on set (or location) rather than just fiddling around with on the bench.

liveblogging! lunch on set. no fan noise that i can hear. amazing interface. one complaint for now - the CF card slot - the CF card is really HARD to pull out. might be me.

audio quality is amazing. loving it. could not use HD monitor as a dedicated monitor, quality is not there - but still nice to have another image on set.

got it from trewaudio. those guys are so amazing.

should be getting the drive caddy today.

formating the cf card takes a while - but boot up is fast!! again don't know the fan noise at all. I AM SO HAPPY WITH IT!

file system is amazing. this thing rocks

...In November it will be 5 month since I've ordered it with 2 caddies and paid in full.
Very glad to hear it's up to expectations

thanks guys. shoots over. went really, really well. I recorded to the nanoflash as a backup, but the PIX is the primary source for this greenscreen shoot from today. The machine is so intuitive and well get pumped for yours. Sound Devices delivers. I am so happy.

any sort of delay that it took for the unit to get to you shows just how much effort Sound devices put into it. You can't rush greatness.

Here in Australia I ordered one a couple of months ago out of 30 which were back ordered. Last week I received a message from the supplier that they had arrived in Sydney. One week on.... still waiting....
