JOE BLO said:I met with the editor. He did a great job of putting it all togehter. He left in everything so we could see what we had and make cuts from there. The problem is that it was 13 minutes long. We edited a tighter version and got it down to 9 and 1/2 minutes. I'm feeling like we'll have to ditch some good stuff, probably whole scenes, to be able to get it down to 6 minutes. The script was only 6 pages, so I thought i was safe.
Has anybody else run into this problem. I'm thinking about cutting a version exactly how I want it, at whatever length it ends at naturally (probably around 9 minutes) and then cut a second version, at 6 minutes, just for this festival.
What are you guys doing? Did you all plan it out right and make it in under the 6 minute mark?
Am I the only one who has gone over the time limit?
JOE BLO said:I'll see if we can cut it down to 6 minutes without it sucking. But I'm leaning towards entering the longer cut in the non-compete part of the festival.
Thanks for the headsup Larry. That makes me even more excited about the new cut of the film. I think it plays much better at this under 6 minute version.Larry R said:Unfortunately, the "non-compete" option is no longer available. The reason it existed in the past was because of the "DVX/HVX" only clause. Now that all cameras are allowed, all entries must be qualified entries and will be rejected if they do not conform the posted rules.
This is not because we don't want to see your film(s), but because there are so many entries over the past few festivals, that it becomes unfair to those competing when some of the "compete" entries get missed by viewers because of watching "non-compete" entries.
And, there are several opportunities, within DVXUSER itself, to show off your work that if you have a "non-competing" entry, you can just release it as a regular video sample.
BTW - the grabs are looking really good...I hope you get this cut down, as I'm looking forward to seeing how it turned out.
John, You and Caroline were a great help on the film. Sorry about the long nights. That was my lwast favorite part of the process. Thanks for coming back for the reshoot. It made a huge difference .Hermn8r said:I don't know why it's taken me so long to get on here!!
Thank yo uso much, Joe, for the opportunity to work on this project. It was AWESOME!!! Speaking from a crew member's perspective, I can say that the cast you got was really great. Despite the looooong nights, everybody kept their cool and saved the drama. Speaking from an actor's perspective, the crew and the set were amazing. Mike does such a nice job, and the hospitatlity, care and patience of the crew was extremely beneficial.
Oh, and Jackie Chan rocks.
