FS7: Sony rumored to release new FS7

Can't wait to get my hands on that new sensor and those sweet new high frame rat... Oh.

Now Ben, you begged for a more secure e-mount with a tightening mechanism, Sony delivered, and now you are chaffing over what wasn't included along with the mount you asked for.

IMO that upgraded mount along with the electronic ND is easily worth the $1500 premium over the Fs7 MkI. Be glad that the MkII didn't come with a sensor rendering our Fs7 MkI's obsolete!

I saw from a pic that A. Chapman has put up that the "PL" mount locks the other way from real PL mount.. thats going to be really awkward .. and counter intuitive .. did some one at sony just put it on back to front ?? what possible reason for that.. big mistake I think..

For those who only use an Fs7 I don't think the lock direction is a big deal. Especially for those owners who have never touched a PL mount. Which is most. There's no muscle memory there to be undone.

Speaking of Alister's blog, check out the manner in which he has the updated control arm mounted. I don't know if this manner is a manner that Sony intended but it is quite clever in that in allows the grip to be positioned far back and snug up to the camera body:

Yes see what you mean.. but it means when you tighten the mount.. your hands will be right where the VF is.. in stead of tightening down wards into free space..

I just wonder why have it that way round.. when presumably it could have been the same as PL.. universaly "things" tighten clockwise.. and its easier to push down.. and your not having to move the VF everytime you lock the mount.. thats why Arri made the PL mount that why in the first place.. I think its just a classic ,engineer at the bench ,thats never changed a lens.. strange as the F5/55 sony made PL mount adaptor is the "correct" way round.. but the camera,s are made in different departments ..

I must run with my VF positioned much higher than you do. My VF is positioned no where near interference with turning any lens mount. It is positioned much higher up, on roughy the same plane as the shotgun mic.

Fair point.. when I have used the Fs7 Ive had the VF much lower.. but still I wonder.. why make it the other way round in the first place.. ? maybe some legal reasons ..?

The difference is $1500. If you heard $3000 you heard wrong.

Sorry my info was not actually in US dollars.. so I guess the US price is $1,500..but I doubt it will be so little in the rest of the world.. but then who would ever buy a Fs7I at such a small price difference..to the II..esp if they will have to fork out for 3rd party stuff just to make the VF rig/Arm/Loupe as they should have been in the first place..

Cheapest advertised price I have seen in the UK so far, just under £10,000.. about $12,500.. with the Fs7I at approx $8,850

No not at all. It was a joke based on the last few pages or so of me getting told off for suggesting it would be evolution rather than revoltuion...

I still think it possible for someone to devise a product that torques against the body of the camera and thus eliminates e-mount wiggle as well as providing support for heavier glass. But with the new mount on the Fs7 MkII the market for such a product is limited to Gen I owners. Most of whom are okay with the e-mount as is.

That the Fs7 now has a better lens mount has cut further into the F5 market. The reasons to buy an F5 instead of an Fs7 are becoming more few. An FZ mount isn't exactly attractive to begin with seeing as there are so few FZ mount lenses.

Difference price at CVP UK is 2,300€,I think at the end it will be something between €1500 to €2000. I was planning to get the FS7 and i've even made the order for one and then cancelled it when rumors start appearing here and there, now if the price for the FS7II is about same price of the Canon C300mkii maybe i should think twice before buying!

does anyone know what's the exact format / bit depth the Odyssey outputs? and what's the highest framerate possible? 240 fps raw? vs. 120fps slog without?

is the Odyssey worth the extra money: 144pin Interface: 1.746,00€, Odyssey + RAW upgrade: 2.800,00$?!

According to many, a 10-bit ProRes to the external recorder is good enough. It goes through an HDMI connection, albeit with limited frame rates.
