I did. A hundred posts ago. Don't you read the thread?
It's like there's a delayed echo in this thread...
So when do we expect to hear about this release? It's already 11 PM in Barcelona, so I assume the event has already happened. Here is the original invite. Should we expect something Wednesday November 9th for the official release?
have patience you must. Until 9 am tomorrow EST. everything new about it has already been posted in this thread... search, you must...
As the creator of this thread, no need to search as I have read almost every post on the thread. I don't believe we have seen everything that is coming on the camera. It was more of an open ended question, like when does it actually officially drop? I've waited this long, another 12 or so hours isn't too bad. Just thought we would have seen more information by now.
I've seen the presentation PDF....
Rec.2020
FS5 NDs
More assignable buttons
Kinda PL mountish E-mount lever for better lens attaching
"better" EVF and a "new" system (square type rod system opposed to a regular rod, better stability for the whole EVF system )
Nothing new on the codec/sensor/fps side...
In my mind, at least, the codec, sensor and FPS were still wildcards.
I will be at NAB NYC all day Wednesday.
A general comment about BT.2020 unrelated to whether or not there will be any product introductions.
BT.2020 is a broadcast standard incorporating a given color gamut as well as a broadcast 3840x2160 resolution. It would be useful as an output gamut in Custom mode. Custom Mode to Sony is for broadcast. CineEI mode is for "cinema" (in its broadest sense). SGamut3 is a wider color gamut than BT.2020 (not SGamut3.Cine, which is provided as a more manageable color gamut). So if shooting in CineEI mode, SGamut3 produces a wider color gamut which can then be constrained in post to a BT.2020 gamut.
In Custom Mode, BT.2020 output delivers a color gamut considerably wider than BT.709 facilitating HDR deliverables. It all depends upon how you want to shoot, what deliverables will be and how much time/budget is allocated to post. In a great many cases, shooting Custom Mode with one of the Hypergammas creates perfectly acceptable broadcast TV with much less post production than a CineEI Log workflow.

Again, it's the Creative Ventures that have a few kits on their site for pre-order with prices. You can have it as a kit with the two Sigma cinema zooms for €13.995 (excluding vat, I believe).A few days ago someone in another forum said the FS7 II "kit" with the 18-110mm, would sell for around $14K. I think that was a conversion from Euros
Thank you Ned for a clear and eloquent explanation. More people should read this and digest it.
Looking forward to the OFFICIAL announcement if there is one.
How useful would a BT.2020 mode be to you if your sensor can't actually capture all the colors that reside within that gamut? If absolutely nothing changes to the CFA (which is often considered an addition to the sensor), or nothing "new" happens to the image processing, then rec.2020 from the FS7 II will be like 4K from an Amira. Sure, it's "4K" but there's still something missing.
Well... "if" there is an "OFFICIAL" announcement (I'm guessing there will be) then at last we won't have to labor through these insulting posts suggesting that the FS7 II is anything more than an FS7 with an ND filter and couple buttons! Who are these ostriches that dare pull their heads out of the sand?
Does BT.2020 matter to anything beyond a market niche?
obviously you did still not understand what REC2020 means. Do you think in-camera-REC709 isn't required neither?
YouTube just announced that it will stream HDR (compatible with some TV's). Netflix also mentioned its pursuit of the HDR programming. And those two are 2,000 pound gorillas. No one's corporate clients are going to care about wide color gamuts or high DR content until laptop, tablets and computer monitors make a big leap forward. And so far the only piece of the puzzle that's come together, even a little, is wider color capabilities. For some reason Apple decided to pass on the opportunity to introduce true HDR tech with their 5K iMac and their new MacBook Pro's. In fact they decided to stop making separate monitors all together for now. Since Apple is(was) usually a good predictor of things to come, dongles aside, it might be a long while before Internet content takes advantage of wider color gamuts and higher DR...
