FS7: Sony rumored to release new FS7

I sometimes forget that rec.2020 is a broadcast standard only, so that makes sense then why Sony keeps it in the Custom menu. I hear rec.2020 mentioned so often when Dolby Vision or HDR10 is brought up, and in reference to so many of the new wider gamut TVs and monitors, (as well as new HDR features in NLE's- incl. Resolve), that I forget its application is limited.

... But if someone is claiming that because a Sony stills camera downsamples its video from 6k to 4k it is easy to upscale that process to FS7 quality at an FS7 price point with FS7 reliability, or suggests because an A7s can shoot clean at so and so ISO that there is no reason the FS7 shouldn't be able to do so, or says they expect 6k and 4k 120fps at an FS7 price point - all of which have been said in here - then to state that these are almost certainly completely unrealistic wishes/demands is completely reasonable in my opinion...
It is entirely reasonable and only a question of when, not if. Canon has already done it with C300 MKII and Sony doesn't like playing the second fiddle to other manufacturers, even during the non-compete period.

To bad this leaked for Sony. This just put a serious halt in FS7 and FS5 sales. I mean, who in their right mind wouldn't wait until the new camera is official?

Surprised it would effect Fs5 sales.. totally different camera ..? .. if someone could afford an fs7 .. why would they ever buy an fs5 in the first place.. unless purely for the size.. although even that isnt a huge difference ...

not really
but if they start shipping it in january they in fact miss some time
Well, then the time from announcement to shipping is way longer than the time from leak to announcement anyway so they were planning on lost sales.

I'm starting to think it's a planned leak to stop people who reads the rumour sites etc from buying before the announcement (and then complain when the new one hits cause they bought the old one). How else can a major reseller like Creative Ventures get away with posting pics/specs etc?
On the other hand Creative Ventures seems to always jump the gun a bit with new camera releases...

My guess it will ship very shortly after the announcement. And that there won't be much else new than the leaks changes...

I can tell you from the other side that leaks are a major pain in the ass. A manufacturer wants to coordinate and control the release of information so that everyone gets it at once. That way all the dealers and internet news outlets push out the info at the same time and clients all over are not likely to miss the information. Likewise no dealer wants to be behind and lose a chance to grab a sale or have their clients think that they are anything but up to date with the info from the manufacturer. Why would I buy from Store X if they don't seem to know about something that Store Y is all over? I'll go to Store Y instead.

This information is generally sent to various places beforehand so that they can prep their websites and staff. There is usually a specific time on a specific date that the embargo on publicizing the information is lifted. Break the embargo and you run the risk of not getting the advanced information next time, and instead learning about things only when they go public.

I run that particular operation at Convergent Design, and I can tell you that I get mighty upset when people break the embargo. Usually it's an honest mistake, but no matter what I ALWAYS hear about it from other dealers and news outlets who are pissed off that they have to wait while someone else scoops them.

And as one of those press contacts, I scrupulously honor any embargo. In that press relationship with vendors, I do hear their disgust over leaks.

I really cannot let a statement that manufacturers intentionally leak introductions to go unchallenged, particularly when it is just an "I've heard plenty of stories" contention.

Haha, calm down, I never claimed that that would be the case, just speculated a bit (we are still discussing a rumour here, remember?) followed by the statement that I've seen those Creative Ventures jump the gun on other releases... meaning that it's unlikely a leak. But one can wonder why they are still trusted with sensible information, and why it has not been taken down from their site? They even have a banner announcing it now...

From my secret source ;) .. they will continue to sell the fs7.. the fs7 II is a "new" model.. and will be about US$3K more than the I.. I guess we will all know by the Inter Bee on the 16th..

I've seen the presentation PDF....

Rec.2020

FS5 NDs

More assignable buttons

Kinda PL mountish E-mount lever for better lens attaching

"better" EVF and a "new" system (square type rod system opposed to a regular rod, better stability for the whole EVF system )

Nothing new on the codec/sensor/fps side...

Did you hear that Ben Scott?? You got your wish! Your voice was heard!!!!

If the features of the Fs7II are accurate as reported, the good news for Fs7 I owners is that there isn't anything there that would cause a client to request the Fs7II over the Fs7I. Rec.2020 isn't anything that any clients give a sh*t about enough to demand an Fs7II.

Most everything listed pertains to usability and making the camera op's life easier.
