FS7: Sony rumored to release new FS7

The stronger lens mount alone would make it worth the price of admission.

A stronger lens mount would be most welcome, but wouldn't be surprised if it's not, & the lever lock was simple added so lenses that need support, such as the 18-110mm, were easier to mount.

I think you're right and that looks to be the case, but at the same time, how much could they really change/do in 2007?

It's a different time and world 10 years later...they could change/add so much if they wanted to.

But to your point, WILL THEY?

I think the lever lock will eliminate some of the potential for 'wiggle' like you have with a spring tensioned DSLR type mount used on the current FS7. What they came up with looks a lot like an e-mount version of the positive lock EF mount or a mini FZ-mount. Hopefully this will make a PL mount adapter sit more secure and eliminate one more potential flex point.

I like the idea of the new locking mount, it's just a shame it'll be wasted on securing only the metabones adaptor, and we'll still have a regular, wobbly EF mount for our lenses!

I jest! With the new 18-110 there will probably be a lot more people using the E-mount natively. In fact I'd bet the new lens mount was designed specifically with the 18-110 in mind, so It'll likely be a rock-solid combo with no wiggle.

Of course not. It's an FS7 with some extra buttons and new nd.

Why do you take such violent offense to any and all suggestions that the FS7 II might have an upgrade that could actually amount to something significant? The whole point of his thread has been to guess at, comment on, wish for, or hypothesize about what the camera could be. It's one of the most common types of threads on any gear-specific forum when a new model is on the horizon, and it's usually enjoyable...

If the FS7 II amounts to nothing more than "some extra buttons and a new ND," and your next camera isn't going to be a Sony anyway, why jump in here and troll anyone who feels like making a guess at what might appear on the camera?

I didn't think a couple knobs and a new ND could expand a sensor's color gamut to Rec.2020, but clearly that was an idiotic guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's a firmware update, the FS7 could do rec2020 now just like the F5 can do it now. It'll be interesting to see if FS7 Mk1 owners get any more firmware updates or that's it from this point forward.

As I said a few pages back the variND tweak is as much about saving Sony money from less warranty repairs than the motivation to make a new model of camera. It's all very well having all those extra buttons but if they're equally as limited as the current model it's not such a great improvement.

I'm pleased to see the lens mount improvement and is probably the most significant upgrade. There's nothing in the upgrade that would make me want to sell my FS7 and get the MkII and I expect it to be a significant increase in price especially in the UK where the pound has slipped.

Dont think the F5 has Rec 2020.. was only the F55 in V8.. but yes interesting if the Fs7 II has 2020 and the same CFA as the Fs7/F5.. then yes you would think they could both have it too.. it must be getting a bit complex for Sony to not offend its previous buyers.. ! .. you would have t presume they will stop making the Fs7 (although still support it).. nuts to have 3 camera,s all jostling for position ..

Curious to see the final released specs and how it stacks up
As a current FS7 owner, it wouldn't cause me to switch to it, although as many have suggested, that may not be their point.

Now if Sony want to get more business from current owners, they need to fix their ridiculous focus-by-wire crap. I'd love to switch all my lenses over to e-mount lenses, but I can stand focus-by-wire!!!

REC 2020 has not been added to the F5 though and is F55 only at this moment in time. I presume this 2020 Gamut is in custom mode only anyway which is useless to me. When you have such a powerful camera and codec I see no point in using custom mode.

Nice to see the next generation of the E-mount / lens mount and I agree that it's nothing too important spec wise to upset the many FS7 users around here.

They seem to strike a good balance on this upgrade. If they changed the EVF mount and optics and improved the LCD it could save you like 1000€

.

Ah! Thanks for the clarification.

Maybe then the new FS7 MkII has the F55 sensor then?

That would make Mitch's cryptic comment about not replacing a camera hold more weight.

Unless the FS7 MkII has the F55 sensor and it comes in at a much higher price.

I don't take offense for goodness sake, and most certainly not violent offence - but clearly people are being ridiculous about what they think might be coming in this refresh. A new sensor? 4k 120fps? 6k downsampled to 4k? That's not trolling. It's disagreeing and pointing out the obvious.

The camera is already capable of recording wide gamut. It's just a firmware update to offer REC2020 as a selection.

I think the new camera looks great. I don't need it but would welcome the additional features if I was buying for the first time now. If my camera died tomorrow I'd get one. But it's not an upgrade your existing FS7 type camera. So no need for you to get your knickers in a twist.

EDIT: Although obviously if it has a new sensor and more framerates I'll be prepared to eat humble pie :)

If it had F55 sensor (global shutter) and colour it could sell for much more IMO. Its would basically mean FS7+MOJO which is one thing that the current FS7 does not have. I doubt it though.

Yes interesting.. might be.. but then it would be a global shutter and lower ISO.. but high price and Fs7,I cant see why they want to do that.. the price seems to have been its major selling point in the first place.. but who knows the logic of Sony !

Somethings like the VF support .. that really needed fixing.. and was not really a fit for use design in the first place.. that should be free to all existing owners.. Im not an fs7 owner.. but the up grades of that VF support and the actual LCD itself and the vary ND would for sure make it more tempting if i were in the market for one.. if the price is pretty much the same.. it really needs a TC BNC in/out on the body, and V mount adaptor.. too.. to be taken a bit more seriously ,IMHO.. esp as nearly all audio has gone separate system ..
