FS7: Sony rumored to release new FS7

Sony is rumored to release a new FS7 like camera sometime in November. If this is true, what would you like to see in it? What would make you switch from your current FS7 to a new one?

I can't buy any more camera stuff as I've spent way too much $$$$ this year, but it would great if:

1) Small FS5 Body
2) Just rip off the Arri color science
3) Clean 4K up to 180fps would be INSANE.
4) Some type of jam sync for sound guys without the XDCA

It's a great camera as is though.

the variable ND from the FS5
smaller/lighter if possible with the option to mount the grip right on the body
better AF

dreaming: some kind of implementation of the compressed raw codec right in the body

some other thing that i did not even i know but can't live without once it's out there....

I would like to have more assignable buttons on the main body. A more robust ND filter knob. A quick release on the top handle to allow tool-less removal. A brighter tally light, at least the rear one, or selectable brightness that gets at least twice the current level. A dedicated shutter speed thumbwheel without having to press a button and then turn a wheel. The ability to format a memory card while the camera is recording to the other card. Shutter speed that returns to 180 degrees after exiting S&Q mode. A storage compartment for extra memory cards and a pair of earphones would be nice. High frame rate modes that include the burst modes of the FS5. Brighter LCD and fogless loupe, and more diopter range. Also, I'd like to be able to set a focus point in memory and press a button and have the lens go to that focus point. Same with zoom, have the ability to save a pre-set zoom, hit a button and the lens zooms to that point. Why not? My Canon XL-H1A has both of those. I was going to add voice recognition, but that just sounds crazy.

Wonder what it might have??? (some of the features of the FS5, and not needing the XDCA, would both be nice)

And what will that mean for FS7 prices and popularity with producers?!

- 16bit linear RAW or switch a log format
- Sony FZ-mount (stronger)
- Smaller body like FS5
- Variable ND
- Global shutter
- Prores without the add on box
- internal RAW recording to CFAST2

Sony haven't done a mkII on the FS series or F series so a bit unlikely they should do it now. No PXW camera have a mkII version either. Since the FS7 stills sells very well it doesn't make sense or look to be a good thing to do an updated model. There's a higher chance of Sony doing something new.

The weakness in the Sony lineup is nothing to compete against the Panasonic DVX200, AG-UX180 or HC-X1. The PXW-Z100 and FDR-AX1 are now old and the only other Sony product to have UHD50/60P is the FS7 with expensive media at almost twice the price.

But Sony has done revisions of current cameras, including popular ones. The EX1 begat the EX1R, the FS700U begat the FS700R. Both were very popular when the change came along.

Would you think it's better to hold on purchasing the FS7 for now? I just put an order for an FS7 and now i'm afraid i will get it same day Sony announce the new FS7ii. What do you think!? should i cancel the order? I have also the FS5 plus raw bundle and odyssey and i do like the idea of variable nd on the fs7 and whatever adds it will have vs "old" fs7!
I should buy the FS7 for the end of this year but can wait if there's something new for real coming up!

Well, rumored to announce a new camera. Not even a rumor about availability, right?

Lots of good wishes for what would be nice to see on a FS7r (or whatever they'd call it). I'd also like to see all the features of the XDCA back built into the main camera.

"Soon Only Not Yet"

If there is any camera that's going to get a replacement, it's the FS7. Probably their most popular camera ever.

ha ha guys you have interesting dreams.
except variable ND I have no idea what could be realistic without crashing the F5

Sony has a funny timing. They announced the a6500 two weeks after the world's biggest photo fair Photokina

I once read on one of the rumor sites that they like to be random and have announced other cameras after big shows based on their product roadmap to receive more attention, which obviously makes sense in any business.

I do expect a replacement for the FS7 but in September 2017 or maybe in the spring next year and not now. But given their hasty business spitting out cameras who knows?

Figured with the price increase and it being back-ordered, an updated model wasn't coming on the scene for awhile. It's still pound for pound, the best docu-camera under 10k out there right now. I get calls for mine all the time.

Curious to see what the new features would be? I just bought an Epic-W and a Mavic so I'm probably done w/new camera purchase for the year!
