GH2 Sony NEX-7/A77 - serious competitors for the GH2?

at 24mp @ 10fps , how long before the buffer fills - not many seconds I´d imagine - the only rumor I´ve heard is that the new mkIV might have 720/120p - the nex 7 was originally rumored to include 720/120p, but this was forgotten along the road to reality

on sony, with leitax mount swap, you are able to use leica r, zeiss zf, zeiss contax and voigtlander lenses. that's decent.

Updates... it's official now... Good news and bad news on the video mode side! http://www.eoshd.com/content/3715/official-sony-a77-announced-sony-nex-7-has-full-manual-control-in-video-mode

The crop in video mode DPReview reports concerns me a bit, hope it is just the SteadyShot. I am sure when I turn SteadyShot off on the C3 and A55 the crop reduces. Otherwise we will be shooting on basically a 2x crop Micro Four Thirds sized sensor instead of a lovely APS-C which reduces the camera's appeal dramatically. No need to panic yet let's see how this pans out. Rest of it looks fantastic. 1080p via HDMI not interlaced... that could be very promising indeed.

This guy is a typical older tv-dop in europe with no experience in shooting with a dslr. Presumably he was shooting in 50i mode (ghosting) with a low data rate of 17mbps. Lets take it as it is... just a first well-meant look...

?
I don't understand, is it processor stabilized? On the recent Pentax DSLRs the whole sensor was held steady mechanically, which was noisy but worked nice

The killer feature for me with these new Sony cameras is the 16-50mm f/2.8 AF lens ( constant F-stop zoom ), which costs about $600 when bought as a kit lens. The A77 has in-body image-stabilization. So despite the low 17 Mb 1080 24P data rate, this might be a great hand-held video camera.

I don't understand what the heck is taking Panasonic or Olympus ( or a 3rd party competitor ) so long to produce a 14-50mm f/2.8 ( constant F-stop ) zoom lens. This has been my main drawback with the M4/3 cameras to date.

I will definitely keep on eye on full blown video tests of the Sony A77 and VG-20 cameras once they are out.

I think it's interesting how the display is flexible enough to flip around and peek over the top or bottom of the camera, but I still prefer the swing-out-to-the-side articulating display on the GH2. When I'm in front of the camera and I need to see the display, the camera is usually mounted on a bulky tripod head with a light and a mic mounted on its shoe. Having the display above or below the camera wouldn't do me much good.

wouldn't the Nex-7 be the better option? same sensor, video capabilities, manual controls, etc - but can be adapted to basically all lens (including Sony's Alpha mount lens with Sony's adapter which preserves autofocus).

or actually, maybe the nex-5n is the better option - alot cheaper, no super high MP overkill, 1080p60 as well.. just need to know if the vid controls will be full manual on this one vs the nex-7

The NEX-VG20 should be the best option for 1080p24/60 IMHO.

Full HD video shooting in the AVCHD™ format is now complemented by a choice of 24p and 60p (progressive) frame rate options. Footage shot at 24p can be enhanced with Cinema Tone Gamma™ and Cinema Tone Color™ for an even richer, more cinematic look.

Dialogue and other sounds are captured by the precision Quad Capsule Spatial Array Microphone that now supports stereo and 5.1 channel surround. The camcorder also offers a new audio level control.

Several ergonomic refinements let videographers shoot HD video and stills in even greater comfort. The camcorder’s handgrip has been redesigned for excellent stability. Allowing manual adjustment of exposure, iris and other settings, the control dial can now be accessed even when the LCD panel is closed.

The button layout now features “hard” function keys, direct access to each shooting mode (Iris, Shutter speed, Program AE), a second REC button for low-angle shots and expanded focus button – all located for intuitive operation so users don’t have to take their eyes away from the electronic viewfinder.
