Other: Sony full frame unveiled, named "VENICE"

The camera looks really good. I hope this time Sony will properly promote the camera. Not let it fall through the cracks like they did with the F35 and F65. There is not much interest for it here or in similar forums because 99% of the people here can't afford it. But looks like Sony has a winner with the Venice. They should promote it to the right people so it can gain some traction.

Something tells me that there will be plenty of Sony Pictures and Sony Pictures Television productions opting to showcase the Venice. ;-)

Even the Sony F3 kinda sort of "fell through the cracks" as well

Well the F3 didn't fall through the cracks. It would never have mattered. I'm talking about Hollywood hence why I didn't even mention the F55. Let alone the F3. Totally different market.

Deakins, people love Deakins. Pay Deakins to shoot the next bond or ceon bro film on the VENICE

I know you probably meant this tongue in cheek. But I doubt Deakins would do that. Shoot with a camera he doesn't believe in because of money. He doesn't need it. He probably makes enough. He would have to like the camera.

By the way is there an official reason for the full capitalization of VENICE?

That doesn't really count. It needs to go mainstream. Plenty of sony pictures and sony television productions already use the F55 and even F65. Doesn't make a dent. :)

Heck yeah, if Sony gave him a free camera, and lent him four more for the duration of the feature film, then Sony would surely be coming out waaaay ahead from that deal.

He might not care, but if it is that little bit extra which makes the penny pinches at HQ go for it, then it is worth offering a deal.

Probably the same reason ALEXA is... ; )

Aha! Goes well with the lc709a(rri) lut:grin:

It's clear the Panasonic EVA is also taking cues from Alexa. From the female name for the camera to the styling of the name writing. Arri must feel pretty good that everybody has to imitate them. That's when you know you are on the top of the heap.

It's not like Deakins ever pays for his equipment anyway. He asks the studio for the best Alexa and Master Primes, then spends the rest of his time worrying about everything else.

Just like with everything else in life: Sex Sells. Would you rather have ALEXA sitting on your shoulder next to your face or STEVE? Lol

So which of the cameras I mentioned looks better than what we have seen from Venice so far? Can you point to a clip that shows them looking better?

it's not the question if any camera might have looked better. It the question what have they done with this camera. It's the look, the framing and mostly the grading because I don't think the Venice has such a poor highlight roll-off. I saw it and thought it could have been shot also with a GH5. I don't know if this guy looks really like in 1:24 ff? In some of the wide shots the right and left borders look very weird like an failed anamorphic de-squeeze. my 2 cts
