Sony DSC-RX10 II Announced: 4k internal recording, 1080P up to 960 FPS, and lots more

I expect the RX10 II and RX100 IV to have the same blue-highlights-of-death of many other Sony cameras, where anything lit by the usual blue LEDs you'll find at many parties blow up in the most awful way possible (thread). You can avoid that by setting WB to 5000K or higher (it's much easier to fix WB in post than to fix these horrible blue things). Not a deal breaker by far.

Here's why Samuel is one my dvxuser favs and Barry's heir for sure! At least, on Sony's toys part concerns

E :-)

I don't think I've ever filmed anything on any camera above 1600 ISO, but we're creative producers where we control/create the light.

But yeah, if you do event shooting and they have cheap blue LEDS then I guess you have to beware.
I honestly didn't know anyone shot anything of value at ISOs in the thousands.

Minimum ISO on the a7S is 3200, but in any case the thing that solves the blue highlights issue is the WB, not the ISO.

Also, thanks a lot Emanuel but that's completely undeserved

Wow I didn't think Sony still had that problem. I used to get that all the time on the Sony DSR300 and DSR500 DVCAM cameras. It bugged the heck out of me. Haven't seen that seen I switched to Panasonic many years ago.

It's a completely different beast. What f-stops do you shoot your 5D2 at? In terms of DoF this one is equivalent to f/7.5 on full frame. If you can live with that, and don't mind having a fixed lens, then it will probably feel like a huge improvement in terms of image quality (much better resolution, much better dynamic range, much better codec, and much better lowlight ability for a given -deep- depth of field).

it's typically only used at ceremonies. but added 4K, could put it in the hands of my 2nd shooter. low light will be of utmost importance

Also, is there any lanc controller that works well with this camera?
I'm specifically looking for something to control focus remotely, not only the start/stop and zoom like the RM-VPR1 does.

Thanks Slidemaster.

@ John, "3 steps" is the spec that is confusing me. I wish it meant 1/4, 1/16 and 1/64, but that would mean having 3 NDs inside...

Obviously 3 Steps means 3 degrees of ND when it's turned on, as Auto would indicate how much ND is applied automatically if you chose it.
The ND is 3 step, probably 2, 4, and 6 stops.

However I'm not sure about the colors of the Sony, it may well be a degradation from Canon DSLRs.
