Sure looks like someone is trying to pre-empt the AGF100 release, doesn't it?

Doing more then "trying"... of course, this isn't unexpected. Canon will likely have a new DLSR camera in the next 3-4 months. All of it is a good thing for buyers.

Alright this is what I'm hoping for. EX1 + s35mm sensor. Anything else they announce would be just cake.

It's unclear if it will be EX - the PMW-500 also carries the PMW model prefix and records XDCAM HD422 onto SxS cards.

It's also available with lenses which is pretty significant - at what price? PL glass doesn't come cheap.

Expect to see full details start to make it out in the next 2-3 hours I'd say.

Minimum 10-bit HD-SDI. Preferably 12-bit 3G-SDI or dual-link HD-SDI.

The ex1 and ex3 are 10 bit hd-sdi out already. So if it is ex series you can nano. The K and L designations on other sony cams are with and without lens. Lets hope the without has a decent price.

Did they mention CCD?! Nice. I don't expect it to be in AF100 price range, though... Codec is quite disappointing, but who cares when you have 10-bit out. SLog is nice, too!
The paradox here is PL mount - people are supposed to love it, but they won't, I'm afraid. I hope the lens mount can be easily replaced with third party one without warranty issues.

EDIT: My mistake. It's CMOS, of course. I was reading on 9000PL thinking it's F3L

It doesn't seem to be PL-mount native - it is supplied with a PL adapter. Also will have mounts for other lenses. And they will be offering a zoom for it (which I'm led to believe is going to be a video-style zoom - with rocker and such).

Andrew asked about Overcranking and Undercranking:
We willoffer from 1 to 30 fps at 1920x1080 (17 to 30 fps in dual-link mode) and 1 to 60 fps at 1280x720 (17 to 60 fps in dual-link mode). The Dual-Link Mode is an option available around April 2011.
Weight is an incredibly light 2.4Kg.
444 is available via dual link again in April 2011 price tbc.
Camcorder records all current XDCAM EX formats, plus has 10-bit 422 output as standard.
ISO equivalent in standard mode is ISO 800
Mount at the bottom of camcorder is the standard screw-thread type seen on EX1R.
There are no optional viewfinders available

The sensor size is Super 35mm, the standard size for motion picture films and the same size as the F-35. The camcorder takes 12V DC input on a 4 pin XLR plus uses standard BP-U60 batteries.
Price - Tentative Euro List Price. There are two models, one PMW-F3K with three lenses (35, 50, 85mm F2.0) - Euros 20,700, PMW-F3L body only model - Euros 14500.
Availability is Jan 2011
With regards to details on the zoom lens, Sony will be producing specific zoom lenses for this camcorder, which we intend to show a prototype at NAB 2011

Affordable compared to 5D or AF100? Nope.
Compared to ARRI Alexa, F23 or F35? Hell yeah!

With S-Log and Dual-Link 10bit RGB it's clearly aiming at a slightly different market.

Everthing is affordable to somebody.
Just a question of who

Sadly not me for both this and AF 101

Ah well, back to the 550D

the latitude is 460% in standard mode or 800% in S-Log, which is equivalent to about 12 Stops of Dynamic Range. The camcorder use CMOS, so there is no global shutter, the rolling shutter is vastly reduced due to the fast refresh time of the CMOS sensor.

SR Memory:
No more information on the price I am afraid. I can say though it is actually cheaper per GB than SxS!

Comparison:
Out of the box this will appeal to a wide range of users. For instance a lot of high-end productions will like this camera to compliment the F-35 / SRW-9000 as a b-camera.
Many customers used EX3 in the past for this, or alternatively coupled with DoF adaptors as a main camera for cost-conscious productions.

So when you combine a true Super 35mm sensor with these lenses and the establised EX workflow you really have a fantastic entry-level 35mm motion picture camcorder.

PMW-F3L : 15.000 euros it's 20.000 USD
It's a EX3 with super 35mm chip.
This will be 4:2:0 8-bit (same as XDCAM EX)
So, the quality of AF100 with the scarlet S35mm price !
