Sony a 6500

12 min for A6300 seems to be on a low, low, low side.
I have had it happen at 14 minutes before, also had it happen at 2 hours (off and on but mostly on for 4-5 mins then a 20-30 second break with a 15 min break in the middle of the 2 hours). And that was my problem was the low number. Not knowning if I could do a 20 minutes interview was what make sthis more of a toy to me and a luxury item rather than something I can depend on during a shoot.

I guess we will all have to wait until a couple of folks actually get a production model to test for real. As mentioned above, NewsShooters posted some good info on the 6500 in a test with a prototype model. They show a menu setting that allows you to control the temp shut feature. I sincerely wonder why this could not be included in the next 6300 firmware update but perhaps the bigger body size of the 6500 makes the difference. I have been shooting with my 6000 for two weeks, rolling a Ninja as well as the camera in record. The camera has not shut down once but I am outdoors and it is Montreal in the fall which is not SoCal. After reading Erik's blog (excellent btw) I held off buying a 6300 and picked up a 6000 for $450.bucks, slapped my LA-EA2 on it and have been using it with the Ninja for everything while I wait for my PXW-Z150 to arrive. I will definitely buy a 6500 if the reviews with a production model prove to be as accurate as the pre-reviews. I know that as much as I like my old NEX 7 as my stills camera, with the lens adapter on it I was good for about five minutes shooting video before a shutdown and no way to output to a recorder. So Erik, I will be waiting for your review of the 6500.

Brian thanks for the kind words. The a6300 was a real problem for me and yet some have no issues at all. Ugh!!!!!

It would great if Sony did upgrade the menu system on the a6300 but I doubt they will. I really think they should since the camera isn't being discontinued or replaced by the a6500. I think Sony would sell even more of them! $400 bucks can be a deal breaker for some folks that don't need the new features.

I'll have a production a6500 model on release and torture myself testing it. I sure hope it isn't the inconsistent camera the a6300 is or this could drive me over the edge! :-D

Gotcha. I still think that having a fan installed off a cage, as recommended by Vultch, is a reasonable and expedient solution.

But, of course, there are other options on the market.
