Someone Got One

Is the person telling us about the camera overly forgivving OR overly critical of any potential issues?
I would expect Kaku to be critical if there's something to be critical of. He was one of the first to post footage from the FX1, and for the first couple of weeks his posts were glowingly positive, but after spending some time with it and seeing what was happening to his footage, he became disgruntled.

He shoots mountain-biking footage, and HDV just couldn't cope with the motion going on in his shots. So he sold both his HDV cameras and put the money towards the HVX. Seeing as he's already been disillusioned with one HD format, I expect him to be doubly critical of this one.

I wonder how many of those interested in HD output, in whatever variety, will shoot this type of footage day in day out. HDV with the FX Z1 or HC1 is going suffer.

I would love to shoot mainstream (if that is properly described) footage with a Z1U and the Pany and see how much difference there is.

Although I have to say that the 720p footage looks great.

Mainly because he's shot basically the same footage on all the other cameras so it gives a good basis for comparison.

And it's the bike-based nature of his footage that caused him to sell his FX1 and HC1. HDV couldn't deal with the jitters and bouncing and the fine detail in the trees & shrubs in the background of his mountain biking footage, so he sold them and is now going with an HVX under the understanding that it will cope with those circumstances much better.

Thanks Barry,

That makes sense. I guess he's not crazy after -all.

Mostly yes, partly no.

At DV Expo they were showing some demo footage, in two discrete parts: some footage from landscapes in Italy, and the full-bore production of "The Watchmaker" (grip truck, crane, all the toys, etc). The Italy footage was recorded to the internal HDV tape, all the Watchmaker stuff was recorded on a DVCPRO-HD deck using the HD-SDI output.

At DV Expo, all the footage playback was done off DVCPRO-HD tape.

I assume the canon has great glass..with servo issues of course. But the fact they used DVCPRO-HD to show off "HDV" is reason enough for me to not take the H1 too serious...especially for 9K.:thumbdown

yes.. its no secret Canon has uses DVCpro in professional demonstrations of the H1.

Probally because HDV isnt a professional format.. it never was and probally never will be. I dont fault them for doing it.. they could go DVCpro or HDCAM.. and HDCam is kinda a pain in the butt to work with.
