So whos got their HPX 170???????

The lens wiggle in the 170 is exactly the same as the lens wiggle in the HVX200 and also in the DVX100.

NO IT IS NOT!!!

I just compared the lens looseness my 4 day old 170 to my six year old DVX100A, and the looseness of the 170 is dramatically more obvious than that of the 100. No, I would never have noticed this with the 100 at all but yes, its extremely obvious with the 170.

I am guessing the increased looseness with the 170 comes from the washer-like item between the "lens" & the camera body & the measurable physical gap that is there now.

What is your guess on dust entering there in terms of it making inside the lens element?

This is really a big issue for me as I had problems with my 100A & dust.

I am with Barry, I think that this is a non-issue. I will hook up my HPX to my Letus this weekend and check it out, but I don't think this is an issue.

This is exactly how the Dow loses almost 800 points in one day. Panic and rumour.

I am looking forward to hearing back from you on your DoF setup experience.

Unlike pundits and politicians I got right back on those threads and posted just as "vigorously" once I found out it was a known issue... the post above has me worried yet again though... I guess I just have to wait and see how the HPX compares to my HVX but I am FAR from worried not that I noticed my HVX has the same type of lens mount. Chances are this will not be an issue, especially not if you use good support.

I got my HPX 170 earlier this week. This morning, I read the "OMG, we're all gonna die because of the HPX wiggle!!!!" thread... Almost panicked, I pulled out my Letus Extreme and rails, and spent about 20 minutes seeing if there really was an issue.

My conclution: Barry is absolutely correct. Yes, there is a bit of a wiggle. Yes, my HVX does that also. NO it is not a problem, unless you are foolish enough to attach a super-heavy 35mm adapter without rails.

No one should worry about this. It's along the lines of the weak and cheap feeling P2 door. Sure, it could have been done better, but what's the chances of it causing any harm? Very little.

So far, I'm very impressed with my HPX. More thoughts to come...

This is a confirmation that this is an issue only if you put weight on the lens, for ***inertial*** reasons

It's like trying to stamp out roaches -- this "wiggle" thing is everywhere. Can we please not try to spread some rumor like wildfire?

The lens wiggle in the 170 is exactly the same as the lens wiggle in the HVX200 and also in the DVX100.
sorry, thats not true.
i have a dvx100, hvx200 and now the hpx171 and i have to say, the wiggle
is much more noticable on the hpx171 than on the others.
now, its too extreme...at last in my opinion.

Seems some people are reporting one way or other the other way.

When people bring experiences here, it's hard to say one is "true" and the other is "not true."

Just got mine about 2 hours ago and i have to admit, the HVX was kick ass but this is even better. Weighs nothing, possibility to switch between 50/60 frames or as others would say, NTSC/PAL. Finaly i can do 60p to get even slower motion clips, no more limited to 50p :) Love the camera, it went over all expectasions, now i just have to get something to record on, so no filming before a week or so, but its worth it.

So guys, look forward to get your PAL cam, i dont seem to agreed with any of the complaints so far. I where petrified, but now i know, this camera feels good in all ways, and i believe it will be just as tough as the HVX.

Have a good weekend guys :D
