So what happened to the resolution test between the AF100 and GH2?

Thank you Barry for this test. Personally, as I explained before, my main interest was seeing if you can intercut footage between the af100 and the gh2. And it looks like most of the time, yes, you can. And you bet there are times when you'll need the gh2 in preference to the af100 - I'm looking to shoot extremely small spaces (think small two person tent), and the af100 would be like trying to fit a cow in; then outside you got the af100 and life is beautiful because you can intercut the footage without breaking a sweat :).

Even if I have both AF100s with me I also always pack the GH2. Why? In a word; ETC -- the extra tele-conversion 1:1 crop of the sensor center -- something the AF100 can't do.

There are times when I'm using two AF100s in a dual camera shoot that the GH2 still comes in handy. Perfect example is a shoot last week where we were filming cars being shot up with handguns and wanted some really tight shots of the bullets impacting the glass, etc. Since we weren't allowed to get close and needed to stay behind the shooter, I used the 35-100 on the GH2 at full telephoto in ETC mode. Effectively turning that 100mm into a 400mm (3.9x zoom factor). If we had shot 1080p it would have been a 2.6x zoom factor.

When I bought the GH2 I already had a GH13 that I was satisfied with, but bought the GH2 primarily for the ETC feature since I shoot a lot of wildlife. I find having two AF100s and a GH2 in my kit really expands my capabilities. Aside from ETC, the GH2 is obviously great for stealth situations too. And how perfect is it that all my lenses are completely interchangeable between the AF100s and GH2? Gotta love it. Absolute best of both worlds.

A really good example by tflak of the new style of working in part due to the DSLR "revolution". From the point of view of a visual vocabularly, I think many here amd from what I have seen in other forums are becoming much more sophisticated and visually literate. Great that we can finally afford to go these new places, even if large scale productions have been doing so for years.

Thanks for doing the test, Barry. This explains a lot of the conflicting information from various sources.

Exactly my feeling as well, and exactly my setup. I had a GH13, ditched it for the GH2 because of the additional features, and love that it's capable of using lenses from my AF100s. It's so cheap and so tiny that it doesn't make sense to *not* have it.

+1

It really confirms everyone who's using the AF-100, and has experience with DSLR aquisition is reporting anecdotally. Thanks for doing the test.
