So let me get this straight

Ill be workin on sunday (14th) and tuesday to saturday of next week.

And are people on this board always gigantic dicks? lol i just think it would be more cost effective if you made the camera a bit bigger and put a DVCpro HD tape deck into it without turning it into a SDX900 or Varicams. P2 (great idea) is just way to expensive now, unless they license the technology to 3rd parties.. then i'll maybe consider it. Right now im waiting for Canon to show there cards.

You probably just cost yourself some friends on here, calling the people here (especially the moderators) dicks... only 12 posts in, too... :(

No no no, you got it wrong. While we aren't gigantic dicks, we do have em. ;)

Anyways, really man, you need to lighten up.

1) This information has been covered so many times that it gets annoying having another person ask again. Forums are useful because they store information for posterity. We'd all just use IRC if we didn't care about storing answers/comment for other people; you hear me? So, before asking a question, proper forum edicate is to do a search.

2) You made a mistake, you get a few jokes cracked at you. Even though they are at your expense (kind of), laugh at yourself and make a mental note not to make the same mistake of posting a question without searching again.

Ok?

The cheapest DVCPRO-HD tape deck is $21,000. So sure, if you wanted to pay $27,000 for the HVX, I'm sure they could make one that could shoot on tape.

The whole point of P2 is that it makes DVCPRO-HD quality affordable! You don't have to spend $21,000 on a tape deck anymore. P2 is what makes the camera "cost effective" in the first place!

Hey GSpot - This one's for you:

Ha ha ha!! He comes on our forum calling us d--ks, and his store sounds like it's run by some.

I love that this thread is still going strong!

I guess we should throw in to the mix:

The HVX has 3 native Cinemascope 5.5" CCDs with pixels the size of my fist, but you can only record 2 seconds at a time. And that's only if you have a direct firewire8000 link to Pixar's render farm. Its dynamic range is 700 f-stops, so even on the surface of the Sun you wouldn't get blowouts, and the P2 cards won't melt, either.

I also have it on good authority that the body of the XL H1 is made of Unobtanium, so you can shoot at depths of 6000 miles underwater. But it's still only HDV, so nobody cares.

And apparently the lens is SO wide that when you look through the viewfinder you can see the back of your own head.

But, as far as I know, it still won't record DVCProHD to tape on the camera.
I dont' think it will.... will it? Has that been "confirmed" by Panasonic?

:)

yeah.. most movies arn't made on a mac.

Jarred, is this really true  ?

Is there any particular reason for this, I'm shopping for a new Turnkey so I was wondering if I should be going Mac or STICK with my PC platform.

You have to remember a lot of work is done on SGI systems, which cost even more than macs...
Also, these days PCs simply out perform MACs, that's why apple is moving to Intel based machines (don't tell anyone, but I already have a MAC/XP dual boot on this PC)
Avid have been trying to drop the MAC for a while and now they won't have to

in case you didnt hear.. a few weeks ago i got the entire getup, dual G5's, FCP studio, the works.. Sold it a week later. Mac's just arn't there yet, and it cost me a pretty penny to confirm my opinion.

MAybe in a a few months when mac's are running on intels things will change... but today, the power just isnt there.

You have to keep in mind the majority of the World uses PC. In the past Macs were known for being the machines of the artistic community. Better graphics and higher speeds, etc. PCs just couldn't compete but now PCs have caught up to us.

Mac does consider it's audience a bit more really going to bat for the creative community. Firewire is an Apple invention we all not only use but now count on in video editing and in daily computer use. Mac had the first DVD drives in their computers as well as are usually one of the first companies to institute new tech then other companies follow. And Mac and PC people alike have to agree Mac Software is obviously more tightly intergrated whereas anyone can make software for a PC company. My best PC friend loves to crack on my Mac G4 (but he brings all his graphics work to me).

As far as speed goes, well that's up in the air. Macs are still known for ease of use and less down time (down times mean loss of $$$) but obviously some PCs are faster than some Macs and vice versa but many softwares are optimized for Mac so their speeds are basically the same, not to mention Mac will be going 64mb Pentium soon as well so many people who left Mac for speed concerns will probably be returning. Another thing to consider is virus protection. There's a lie going around that Macs can't get viruses. They can but are less prone to and less people make Mac viruses. Virus makers like to destroy the most things possible and Macs are only about 10% of the market (though they are gaining steam).

Lets keep some things in mind too. Bill Gates owns stock in Mac and Steve Jobs owns stock in Microsoft so I think you can see where this is going. My Macs have served me faithfully for years, (still have one of the 6100 before Gigs were even thought about) through every faze be it desktop publishing or desktop filmmaking. I'm sure a PC person would probably say the same about their Dell, Gateway, etc. Ironically right now Apple is one of only computer companies in the black, yet their stock is down. Doesn't make sense to me but Apple does put out a good product. Not to mention you'd have a video editing solution in every price range and Apple FCP Studio is incredibly innovative. You'd do well to go Mac. But I'm sure there's plenty of PC people here who will say the same about PCs.

You could've fooled me and all the other Mac video editors. I thought we were doing okay. I mean I cut a feature with no problem, an associate of mine runs his four keyboard music studio on a Mac G5 and a Mac Laptop and my other friend does movies and has a small music studio in his house which he runs from a G4 laptop he bought from the first guy I mentioned. He makes shorts and hip hop beats for underground rappers. I don't know, Jarred, I think we're pretty much there. But you are right about one thing, next year Mac is coming to kick PC butt! :)
