So I bought t2i again... quick thoughts

I know there's lot of people thinking moving from Canon to GH2/13/Af100, i'm just gonna cut to the chase how i feel about it...

I've been investing time and money into GH13 this fall. It is, of course, differences between a GH1 and a AF100 output but the estetic image out of the box is indeed far from Canon DSLR, mostly due to the heavy alaising/poor resolution of the Canons (i'll come to that in a sec).

I was completely blown away by GH1 first, the detail, the bitrate, the dynamic range, the absolutely clean iso up to 800, cleaner than ANY iso setting on t2i....... Sooo why the frakk did i get rid of it...?

Latest few days I've been browsing through my catalouge of GH13 + t2i footage, and while the moire is annoying and very limiting... there's just something about the Canon look...

In my humble opinion:

- t2i = great visuals out of the box, the colors, the crisp, the grainy alaising puts a sweet 35mm estetic taste on the eye. Goes for all the Canons

- GH1/2, etc = better dynamic range and possibly more cinematic "finish" in controlled environments... but all lenses tried with GH13 and to me image is mostly MEH, yes you get blown away by the detail, but... there's just something missing...

Ok ok haters gonna hate, and this subject is discussed already. Just basicly wanted to say that I've sold my GH13, to buy GH2, but now i've been looking through most my t2i footage and while it

SUCKS BALLS in lowlight.........
it usually....
looks Fantastic.

Now it has Magic Lantern firmware and has manual audio, intervalometer, unlocked all ISO's and all shutter speeds.Big things happened in last 3 days for T2i/550D.

Yeah, stop wasting time researching cameras. With t2i + ML, you've got one of the best. Get out and SHOOT!!!

Why not the 60D? I sold my 550D this week and got one. More there than a just flip screen and manual audio. Very good upgrade for not too much extra cash.

Yeah if you need this swivel screen go for 60D ,it has magic lantern too.60D jhas manual audio but filters are still on.MLantern can disable them.

I appreciate your take on the GH1/T2i Martin. I'm in that boat. Considering selling my T2i for GH2. Lowlight is not a prob with the GH2.
Its just a crisper/cleaner image....but i think i will buy the GH2 first and then sell my T2i to make sure i like the imagery. With the new hacks, it really gives a fun reason to keep the T2i.
I think the best combination is a GH2 and full-frame cam.

many people seem to be underwhelmed by the image from those panasonics: very nice but something is missing

still, if you can't afford the 1Dmk4 or the D3s, right now the GH2 is the king of low light, by a huge margin: ISO 3200 with a voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 means 12 times more light sensitivity than a t2i with ISO 400 and a 30mm f/1.15, and 36 times more light than a 5Dmk2 with ISO 400 and a 50mm f/2, all of which give you the same FoV and DoF (see? with a nice f/0.95 lens at hand, a smaller sensor actually helps: you can let a lot of light in and your DoF doesn't implode)

will the 5Dmk3 have an ISO 14400 that is as clean as the GH2's ISO 3200? well, maybe, or maybe not... which goes on to say: for low light, this GH2+f/0.95 combo is a beast!

(and, even so, I'm not getting one)

There's a charm to getting down on your stomach to get the angle :)

Anyway ofc GH2 is a fantastic camera and i might pick it up later for low light + all the non-static urban shots with happytime rainbow effects, but point with post was really to further imply

Get out and SHOOT!!!

...not completely regardless camera, but for sure take a break from all the camera switching around and just get on with it... all i'm saying is, don't wait for RED SCARLET, cheapest body with great lenses = talent determines the rest, not the amount of aliasing

Conclusion: grab the bull by the horns & make a bloody film already

Potentially, yes, but read the last 7 pages of the big thread on it in here and there are plenty of tips on pain-free installation.

And trust me, it's not just computer geniuses successfully installing it. Read the thread.

Like me! :P lol
I know nothing about this computer stuff, but I got through it alright. Thought I screwed the camera over, but there was always a solution to the problem and it was fixed right away.
Its just awesome!

mr oller. i have gh13 and am considering getting 7d now (which i understand is basically same as t2i). i agree, resolution and many 'technical' things gh1 blows away the canons, but there is something extra the canons have, the colors/skin tones is more filmic than gh1.

gh13: best for landscapes, high detail ourdoor shot, architecture etc

canons: filmic skintones, closer to film look. want to sell my gh13 and get 7d. anyone interested in trading? :)

GH2 has nice picture in 1080p24 only. Everything else is interlaced and encoded in samo old crappy no-B-frame codec. IMHO, for everything else but 1080p24, you are better off with GH13 or (in a pinch), a Canon.

Now if they could hack the GH2 to record clean 720p50 and 1080p25 with B-frames in 40Mbit...now that would be a camera. Except it eat into AF100 sales so I guess it won't happen.

Regarding Canon vs. Panasonic:

I agree. When pixel-peeping, Canon imagery kinda sucks. But when I review my material (from this year) most of it is shot with Canon and not Panasonic. And it looks kind nice, in it's own grainy saturated way. So it's not perfect but it's somehow eye-pleasing in a way that Panasonic maybe isn't.

From what i've been reading about people contributions on these cameras, i arrived to the conclusion that there is nothing conclusive about their differences, they produce good enough image for viewers, almost all contributing experts are biased in one way or another, i takes alot of energy to move from one camera to the other that very few who are used to changing cameras ever get to use the cameras to their full capacity.

As biased as it may sound, my reason for staying panasonic has to do with other things which are not mainly related to image. Since i started panasonic and with more than one camera, i soon found out by accident that sometimes i need to curry only one peripheral accessory for all the cameras.

As a hobby live music shooter, the live music i shoot length depends on crowd response, and if that is over 12 minutes then i'm fried.
Again by just doing a simple tv channel change test, the image "consistents" are so different that even for same film being relayed that i don't see why it becomes an issue in camera choise.

Until you burn your face on hot pavement. There is a lot more to the 60D than a flip screen. It's a much better built camera with the controls where they should be. Don't get me wrong the 550D is excellent, but the 60D another animal.
