Re: so close... have a strange image question
Ben - I checked out the wb sensor, and even though it looks like I have misplaced the uv filter for it, I did happen to have that other dvx infront of me, so i popped that sucker off made alittle light-tight housing for the sensor to look through. I do find it interesting that they placed the sensor directly behind the mattebox, as if it doesnt need to actually pick up reflected light from the object, but simply the color temperature of surrounding light...
Anyways I tried w/b and ended up getting very bizzare results: on a particular white balance preset the camera would white-balance completely red, almost monochromatic. In the other preset it would do the same thing, but in green. Makes me think its definately a problem somewhere on that circuit, possibly a loose connection somehwere. My friend Wing has also picked up a complete lens/ccd assembly for the dvx off ebay for lilke $50 so we will poke around with that and see if the camera displays the same problem with the other setup.
Also the white balance "problem" doesnt occur at all in 30i. the camera white balances properly every time.
About the iris control suggestion: this could be a possibility, and the iris control was on the same circuit as the white-balance features as well as gain control. But the iris wheel and all components are still connected, and changing the auto-iris settings yeilds no response; most likely because there is an acutal coil-driven aperature which the computer is controlling. (now MIA)
next phase is looking at all the connections, making sure something just didnt get bumped. We test the new lens/ccd combo and then deduct from there.
thanks for the support guys, she should be up and running soon. (already thinking about the move to 35mm primes, with correction of course)
