Smuggler's Ransom- OFFICIAL THREAD

Brandon, I just checked out the new trailer and I have to agree with everyone's postive comments. The original trailer wasnt bad, but this really is a much better improvement. I think it works a lot better without the text between some of the clips that were in the original. It was awesome finally seeing the helicopter shot after checking out all of the grabs of it in progress. Awesome job, It looks great.

Wow! Brandon, you're a MADMAN!

I just read this entire thread, all 40 pages of it! And I am so glad that I did. I thoroughly enjoyed the process and and dialogue that you shared. And the Director's Diaries are AWESOME! I love that kind of stuff.

So many kudos to you and your work. Your team is great. The work that Mark Johnson has done is excellent. The music is cool. And Tony ROCKS! The final cut of the trailer came out SWEET. I really like the improvements that you have made to it. (I did see some of the earlier stages of it when it was up, before I read this thread.)

I just wanted to take the time to share my congrats to you. You have done an amazing job. Your enthusiasm is infectious! I am jumping out of my skin wanting to make a movie!

Great job! Looking forward to more of you work!

Ted

Ted: Thanks a ton, I am just really happy and excited to be able to share the process with all of you. It's been an awesome journey, and there's still a long way to go! Glad you enjoyed everything!

Malcolm: Dude thanks! Glad you liked the trailer! :)

UPDATE: I am working on another "Director's Diaries" and it should be up tonight for all of you to check out. Thanks all for your support!

No, actually this is Hank (G0ldenb0y55 on dvxuser) our other Visual Effects guy. He's doing our Green Screen mattes as well, which I'll post some BTS on later.

Yes I wondered cause I had the assumption that vislaw doesn't work with AE.
Great it could be faster, but I guess it fits the music.

There is a voiceover and music as well during this effect... the motion matches the voiceover :)

I think Mark (vislaw) does use AE for his final comps.

Brandon,

I've been MIA for the past week. I haven't been able to keep up with this thread. I just sat down and there were like a bajillion more pages! I sat down and read them and.... Smugglers Ransom is officially AWESOME.

Here are some before/after shots of a green screen matte we're still currently working on.

Ouch, that looks like it had to be hand cut. Didn't key out well? Meaning, it's a good effect, but if you look closely at the still (which no one will do when it's in motion), you can see that it was cut vs. just keyed out.

In hindsight, we probably should have done that with one of our keyes that was giving us trouble.

Naw, it's still rough my man :) He just threw some stuff over to me... He's working on it still.

One issue he is having is the sunglasses... apparently they reflected some green :(
