Smuggler's Ransom- OFFICIAL THREAD

Glad to hear you're still working hard. A lot of people would have given up by now.

Seriously? That's horrible to imagine people putting in so much time & work, and even MORE importantly having others do it with them, only to just end up quitting because they got tired, etc. Sheesh, once I got others depending on me, or got involved as well, I've got an obligation to finish it, do or die.

Brandon, when it DOES finish, I'll be interested to hear how you feel afterwards. SPARROW was such an involving process that ended up stretching nearly 4 months from start start to finish, that I swear I had post partum sydrome afterwards. It was like giving birth (k, I don't actually KNOW what that's like), and then ... now what?

Depressed a little, didn't know what do do with myself, creativity felt low, food didn't have the same taste, etc. Really REALLY creepy. So I decided to make another film, LOL, while we're working on the development of our first feature.

Thankfully my wife's EXTREMELY supportive, and understands I need (or at least have a strong desire) to keep fairly busy with this stuff.

Awesome dude! Yeah, I am sure I'll feel pretty darn happy when it's all done... if the rest of the movie is anything like the part that we're just about finished with, we're going to have a mighty awesome film...

We're also working on getting some stuff out to that new distribution company FoxFaith... we're hoping they bite!

I am also in pre-production on another short film right now, A superhero spoof... for a fundraiser promotion video, I am producing/writing/directing/DPing/Editing it. :) We had some auditions today, and they went fantastic!

Post audio work and score being done now... this is a long film, takes a lot longer than a short.... Some special effects work is being done this week also, and last night I got the final chopper render from Mark... I'll post a shot of that up in a bit, and hopefully some green screen work up this week as well.

I've been bad about updating this thread lately... Here's a still from the final render of the helicopter shot from Mark! Looks fantastic!

Agreed, that shot looks great. I haven't made too many comments lately but I've still been reading all your updates. It's great to hear the progress your making, congrats.

Thanks man, I am glad you've been keeping up with everything! :)

Reflections up to this point...

Reflections up to this point...

I picked up the Robert Rodriguez book: Rebel without a Crew tonight and started reading through his post-production chapter and then the first distribution search chapter... Something struck me as I was reading through the book. The scenario of Smuggler's Ransom is VERY similar to what Robert did. Here are some interesting parallels...

1. Robert Rodriguez spent his summer making a film as did we

2. Robert made a film for a specific market he felt was weak and he could compete in... The Spanish Video Market. We've done the same, by targeting the Christian Film Market, which we believe needs strong content.

3. Robert planned to sell his film in order to make his next film, which would be a sequel to El Mariachi (he of course did two sequels later)... We have two sequels for Smuggler's Ransom lined up as well.

4. Robert made a film with a much higher perceived value than what he really made it for... as we hope our film has a much higher perceived value.

Interesting similarities I thought... and I imagine we'll be having similar conversations with distributors as Robert did over ten years ago when he was trying to sell El Mariachi.

That's my long post tonight... good night.

UPDATE: We're planning on sending the trailer off to FoxFaith (new Christian and Family division of Fox) next week... here's hopin'! :)

Do tell when you get a response. A distribution deal with Fox would be good. Really good. Cannoli good.

And be sure to get it out to Nexflix or Blockbuster or HWVideo. That way, anyone can rent it.

I think the rendered shots need to be blurred and g(r)ained, they're to clean. and I think the lens flare should be brighter.

but this is judging a still so meh.
