Smuggler's Ransom- OFFICIAL THREAD

I think it looks fabulous. The shine coming though the text gets pretty annoying, but other than that it's golden. I dig that last line!

I agree with vidled, that guy looks like he's got some acting chops. Well done.

Can't wait to see it, wish I had the time to have done your BTS.

Yeah, TC is right, the text is a little TOO unreadable due to the shine/rays; took me two goes to be able to decipher it.

Well... the trailer showed today at the AOF fest... we also had some exciting news there if you haven't seen the other thread... A Price Too High won for best supporting actress (Sarah Anne Rice) so we're pretty pumped about that.

In other SR news... we've scheduled some VO and ADR for Saturday the 5th, and we're also going to be shooting some stuff on the night of the 3rd... in the desert... Then we have a full pick-up day the second week of August, then the movie will be in the can!

Ok. finally worked out the budget numbers today. Since people sometimes ask what budget pictures have, I figured I'd share. For the four day shoot, and many other equipment purchases (Spiderbrace, new batteries, new hard drive, some music stuff for Matt) we spent $3660.56. Less than half our budget! I am quite happy about that!

Brandon.

Nice trailer. Your male lead was impressive, and I liked your choice of cross-cutting between the prayer and the action. The end flag etc... fit great.

The only MINOR things i'd mention are :

1. Your voice over starts as we are watching your Noa/Rice Digital. So for a couple seconds we are watching the V.O while watching your logo. This is a distraction, IMO. Perhaps, if it started as your logo dissolves.

2. Your titles seem too long. You elaborate on the essence of the message in each of the titles elsewhere anyway, so why not give the audience the benefit of the doubt. For example, instead of "She is an idealist, totally committed to her faith", you could just write "Her faith is everything".

3. I mentioned the music before, but I still don't think it's as effective as it could be. With a teaser or a full trailer you have to communicate theme and mise-en scene with clarity. With the music you had it didn't underline the "Russian" aspect of your flick. As I mentioned before some native instruments, or arrangement might be more helpful.
Right now it sounds like a cross between "The Rock" and "Lord of the Rings". If that's what you're going for then that's cool. It's just my 3 pence, that if you have to make allowances for production design, then music can help make up the shortfall.

All that being said, I don't comment on stuff unless i like it or it has potential. Your trailer has both, and I thought it deserved an honest response(some people don't like criticism that comes with suggestions, but for me, I find it useful to illumine the point). Anyway, like I said earlier, good work. getting the movie done as fast, with the potential that it looks like it has, is something to be proud of. And to reiterate, these are only MINOR critiques.

PS - I'd take cygnet74 up on his offer. I know I would in a New York second. It's not everyday you're offered a free lunch.

RED # wish I was higher

Thanks for the comments! We'll be cutting and releasing a longer trailer pretty soon. Hopefully being able to tell a bit more of the story, and introducing more characters!

Update: VO and ADR being recorded this weekend. Pick-up day is now scheduled for next Thursday, then everything will be shot.

Working hard on editing and color grading the film. Some more grabs.
