SMPTE and P2

hey,
we are going on a shoot with 9 HVX 200 shooting at 360 degrees.
we have a SMPTE generator hooked up to channel 2 audio of each camera.
the question is, what's next? the cameras are capturing to 2 p2 cards each. we download the data to a storage facility, than retrieve it to work in final cut.
when i open the files clips in final cut i hear the SMPTE on channel 2, but i dont know how to read it? am i missing something? in the "old" days i would transfer the SMPTE with a supported capture device, but what do i do now?

thanks,

liron

I thought the HVX 200 had i ts own internal TC generator? Couldn't you just use that and with the cameras hooked up together? I would figure then when you import them int they'll all have the same timecode. I'm sorry I can't be of much more help then that though as I've not really used that aspect of the camera. But from what I've read in the specs that's what I'd try.

cheers.

it does, but that is not gonna help us. you can only rely on that so far. one mistake (recording to wrong p2 slot, etc....) and the whole 360 rig idea is lost. that is why we have a SMPTE generator hooked up to Audio channel 2.

also, the firewire port on the camera is taken, they are all hooked up to one another, and to a laptop, we wrote a piece of software to allow us to start all cameras at the same time.

we are using final cut pro to edit the material and it does not have the ability to decode SMPTE of the audio channel. so its an issue.

thanks anyway.

Just out of curiousity

Just out of curiousity

Just out of curiousity, did you get confirmation from anyone that it is impossible to decode the TC on CH 2 w/ FCP? I asked around to a few folks and am just waiting on responses. None so far though. I'm just quite curious, because if it is completely impossible, that's quite an omission for Apple to have made. Even if not common, they really should have a means for addressing such (though I guess I don't need to tell you that).

cheers.

I hate to say it but Avid does this quite well and easy.

I've seen TimeTools from Gallery (not worth the money to me) but it may be your only option.
