FS7: Smallrig FS7 grip relocator for $20

I've about had it with SmallRig. I preordered the grip relocator on January 14th and I still haven't received it. All of you have. That's pathetic. They sent me an email on March 2nd saying it's been shipped, but every time I check the status of the shipment, it says "We have received notice that the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece." It hasn't updated since March 3rd. I've contacted SmallRig many, many times over the course of the last few weeks asking where my package is and all they do is ask me to be patient. What the heck!?! I've been patient. I've waited for over two months for this item. I've now waited three weeks for it since it supposedly shipped. I've sat here and watched all of you get yours weeks ago, yet I'm sitting here with nothing. The most frustrating part to me is that I can go on their store and purchase the item now, today, and have it in three days. But when it comes to me ordering the part over two months ago, nada.

Hey Joshua, mine just came yesterday, so it might not be that far off.

Instead of heeding Caleb's (or anyone's) advice, I just tried unscrewing the screws on the handle with the wrench they provided. Two of the tiny screw/bolts came undone, and I stripped the other 2 like an restless child. I wasn't too obsessed about the SmallRig part working, but if you want to do it right, I'd suggest following their advice.

BTW, Caleb, what would you charge (all said and done) for mounting a rosette on the FS7's handgrip and a rosette on the FS7's sliding arm if I were to ship you the handgrip as attached (mostly), and the arm? The fees on your webpage were a little unclear to me, and I know you lowered the price on something. Thanks--

Hi Barry,

Yep it happens every time. a couple of the screws come off easy and one or two are epoxied and they strip. Once they get stripped I charge $25 per to extract them. A full sized male ratcheting Crony is $145, the brass adaptor plate is $45. The plate makes possible using a 32mm rosette (true standard) instead of the smaller 28mm FS7 flavor. I reccommend this because the extra size lets me fit a true 4 prong finger knob for ratcheting onto arm/cam. Placing a rosette onto the Sony EXT arm is $65. So parts total is $255. The other option is a female rosette installed on grip which is $120. This may work for you if you place a rosette on the EXT arm and you send an M6 stud thru from behind. I have not done one that way - heck of good idea.

If you go female rosette on the grip and have me install a rosette on the EXT arm you benefit by eliminating any lateral offset caused by introducing a Crony or worse, the SmallRig part that is much larger. I never thought of this and wish I had! It seems the perfect way. I will bore a 1/4" hole thru the end of the EXT arm and fit a stud with a thumbwheel on the inside (under the iris rods) where it is out of the way but easily accessible. It's $120 rosette installed on grip. $65 for rosette installed on EXT arm and $45 for making a stud/thumbwheel and modifying the arm with a thrubore. $225.

... on the inside (under the iris rods) where it is out of the way but easily accessible.

I thought this was simply on the grip arm where the grip attaches with 4 screws but on the opposite side (1/4" drilled in between the 4 screws). But now you talk about "iris rods"... I have no idea what you are referring to.

Words are such a pain. Yes I bore a concentric hole centered on the 4 screw holes. A knob and stud would go thru that from "under the iris rods", (or under the lens ) so it is pointing outboard toward the grip- unlike most grips, say an Aaton or my Cinegrip, that ratchet IN towards the camera. A simple thought twisted into a tortured pretzel by language.

Thanks for the reply. The second option sounds like the best fit for me. I'll be in touch.
