slow motion test

Depends on how slow you want to go.

Aywhere around 40-50 percent it won't be as smooth as it should be.

Twixtor can help in a pinch but if there's alot of motion in the original speed you have to be careful about artifacts.

Hey guys. For the person(s) that were asking and/or curious about a different method for PC users that cannot get the Mac only software to convert things over - I thought this tutorial would be useful to you:
http://videocopilot.net/videotutorials/fps/index.htm

Demonstrates how to take care of interlacing as well as adjusting frame rate values - all done in Adobe After Effects. Hope this helps!

hi guys. I alway get confused around the PAL NTSC thing.

Do a PAL user have to go through the same process to get smoot slow mo?

Or do we have to use a different method? I mean converting the 50i in differenft programs and so on.

Anyone got a nice method to do SMOOTH slow mo with PAL

This thread is very weird. It started out with a guy showing us his slo-mo and turned into a hijacking show-and-tell session with very weak reasoning for why they were showing and telling.

Anyway, I loved the original footage. I thought it looked great. And I will definitely try it the next time I have a DVX.

I shot everything at 60i with the shutter speed set at 1000. After I cut my edit in Final Cut, I ran it through the JES Deinterlacer program to get the frame rate to 59.94 then conformed it to 29.97 using Cinema Tools. I used the Magic Bullet filters that came with my DVX to adjust the contrast and to add a slight vignette and used the levels filter in FCP to adjust the colors. I also used a soft focus filter to help with some of the noise and rough edges.

I tried this technique and it worked quite well. I do have a question, though. When you run clips through the JES program, it asks you if you want to use both fields and double the movie length. This is what I found that immediately gives the sense of slo-motion. I then conformed it in cinema tools to 23.98 becuase the file info said it was already at 29.97. It definitely creates the fluid slo-mo, but I was wondering what your settings were in JES specifically in terms of field order and output, etc. I wasn't sure if it was being conformed to 59.94 in JES because again, the movie info said it was 29.97 the whole time.

tozz monster, at first i was having the same problem as you... but it was because I always thought that 60i meant 60fps, which isn't true. If I am not mistaken, and don't take my word on this because i'm new to this stuff, but 60i just means interlaced frames at 29.97, which is why the movie info said it was still at that speed.

I hope someone else can ellaborate on this so i can learn more.

Hi, yeah I realize it's 60 fields, not actual frames. The thing that threw me off was the conforming to 59.98 through JES. And there are many field options when going progressive. Just wondering what the exact settings were.

Thanks!

yeah im looking forward to hearing back what the exact steps on JES were so i can try this.

hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure everything was left at the default setting. I tried to get the edges smooth and reduce the noise as much as possible, so I played around with the options of removing the jaggies and reducing the noise. Just play around till you get something you like.

It look great did you use an adaptor?

Nope. Still a couple thousand short of getting the lenses and adapter I'd want.

I was using my glidecam 2000 to try and help stabilize my camera, but it was pretty much useless because I was getting blown around by the wind.

wow the stock lens looks great.
Great work on CC.
When you got CC stills like that why even bother with the adaptor.
