Slow Motion Test

excuse the clip, but it was a spur of the moment kinda thing. anyway i had an idea and it seems to be working, so take a look. this wasn't done with any slow motion effect or software.

For now i don't have the windows file yet, sorry.

no this is all 24p advanced footage. i did however apply speed to 12 frames before the slow motion to give it a "ramp" kinda feel, but i took it out. not totally there's a 6 frame ramp into the slow motion, but the slow motion isn't/wasn't done in premiere or any other slow motion application.

i'm waiting to hear from the program's author, but here's the skinny...

i was reading an old post on the wrigley forum about slow motion (of which i was a part of) and we discussed a couple of applications. Revision and Motion Perfect. we noted that although they are good applications if there's extreme movement and/or blur that you'll get three-legged people, backgrounds warping, etc. what gave me my idea was that it was said "the reason it happens is because the programs are basically morphing frames to interpolate the extra frames."

and that's when the lightbulb popped on. so i searched for a good morphing program that would allow you certain image control so that you don't get three legs. well i found WinMorph and unlike other apps i found instead of just getting points to plot you can actually create curves, lines, and have better control of what gets morphed. now in the clip i posted there's a couple of spots of blurring because i got a little lazy (this is being done frame-by-grueling-frame) so i didn't get to detailed, but see you do have the opportunity to do so.

i'll have a clip up from a movie - maybe SWAT - that way you can see a clip that wasn't slow motion and what one can do. you can set the amount of frames with which you can make extreme slow motion. so say with a film camera you shot 240fps...that one second would give you 10 seconds of slow motion at 24fps. well with winmorph you take those 24 frames and morph one into the other setting the amount of frames to 9. 0 to 1 would then be 0 to 10. give me a second i'll show you.

if you're meaning the blur as i said that can be fixed. i say that because if you look to the left of the screen there's a can that says "auction" and then below that is a "star wars" box...when i first ran the morph both of those blurred because the shot is pulling away. i placed a box around both and it kept them from blurring. also her shirt, but i didn't go to lengthy on it because the more points, lines, and curves i added the longer the render time. so i did mostly quick points and lines to get a feel...but it's doing it yourself that you will better understand or get your own feel. i know this i have motionperfect and was about to spend $600 on twixtor's revision, but for free and some work i can get decent results or as mentioned about the 3rd leg - even better results...a couple more things coming.

mmm ok

were u get the program tell the info pleae it looked i like the slow motion

So how does this work exactly? Do you just mask the sections you don't want to morph and it will create smooth slow motion? Is there a tutorial online on how to do it?

Wow. This is great. I am going to have to look into this. I am on a mac though. I will see what I can find. Thanks for sharing.

for those using MACs what morphing porgrams are available and if you can do the same operation then it should work. as for tutorials...there are tutorials on and tips on that website, but not specifically for putting together slow motion video.

however it's basically morphing one frame into the next. as for masking areas...that was my main concern before doing this. i've seen morphing programs twist, rotate, morph everything including the frame of the pics involved, but with winmorph if you place a box around the frames then it won't ruin the edges and will concentrate more on what's inside that square. it mainly blends the two together, but if you are mapping an object that ends up on the other side of the screen in two frames then you will get blotches. it works great when there's little movement between frames, but i am going to find something a little more extreme and see...

i am going to put up a 60i clip either by tonight or by tomorrow. heck it might work great with 30fps...hmmmm...but first 60i.

just make the slow motion in after effects

like so, sorry for compression this was done real quick. Took me about 1 minutes in AE you can obviously spend more time and make it look reall good
