slow motion rendering problem in FCP

I shot some footage at a soccer game recently. 720, 24p, Filmcam, 60 fps. Imported into FCP, everything looks fine etc. I wanted to see how well this would look in slow mo, so I reduced the speed on several clips to 50%.

One of the clips turned out fine but most all of the others get about 75% through the clip, the playhead keeps moving, but the frame is frozen.

Am I missing something obvious? Is this an issue with pulldown frames?

Working on a G5 Tower, plenty of RAM, FCP 5.0.4.

Any insight?

I'm not sure if this is the kind of problem it would cause, but its been regularly discussed that FCP 5.0.4 has a bug with ingesting P2 media. You'll want to upgrade to 5.1.1. Any materials ingested with 5.0.4 need to be deleted and you need to go back the MXFs and re-ingest with 5.1.1.

cheers.

It's all fully rendered, correct? Yeah, 5.1.1 is a must have for P2 material. Especially with the DVCPRO-HD Frame Rate Converter!

having trouble upgrading to 5.1.1. It says I need 5.1 first, but can't find that update anywhere.

Do you know if I can jump straight from 5.0.4 to 5.1.1?

Thanks for the tip. I know this similar theme has been rehashed and repeated millions of times, but the constant upgrading and paying for upgrades becomes a real nightmare. But I guess there are worse things in life.

Appreciate it.

I have same problem with 720p50 footage

I have same problem with 720p50 footage

Hi,

I'm having the same problem too - but with the PAL camera.

1. I shot some footage in 720p50.
2. I used the P2 Log to convert it to Quicktime video.
3. I place the footage onto a DVCPRO HD 720p25 timeline.

After a render, the footage works fine at 100% speed.

But then I want slo-mo, I change speed to 50% and the footage freezes during the second half of the clip.
(ie: a 7sec clip stretches to 14sec on timeline, but only first half of the clip now plays)

I have FCP 5.1.1 on a G4.

Any ideas of how I can set my 50FPS footage to play at 25FPS????

PS: I later realised that it's best to shoot in 25PN mode when wanting to do overcranking, but I still want to slow-mo the 50P footage I've already shot....

I finally ran into this problem yesterday! I had mistakenly put DVCPRO-HD footage into an anamorphic DV Sequence. I had RT set to Unlimited. It's an RT playback thing. Double check all your Sequence settings! I move my footage to a properly set-up DVCPRO-HD Sequence and the problem went away.

Chris kamen,
The way to do it: Open the quicktime file in Cinema tools, click conform, select 25 fps.

Now the Quicktime file is a 720/25p file and will play at half speed in a 720p25 sequence without rendering...
