C100: Slider recommendations

Does anyone know whether it'd be possible to trim down the duzi slider to 50cm?its what I've done with my konova k5 and I much prefer the length. The konova had steel reinforced rods hidden inside though so was really tough.. Is the duzi just carbon fibre?

Yep, just carbon fiber rods (at least on my V1). I'm actually thinking of doing the opposite…sourcing some longer rods as an option for longer slides.

I wonder if they've hidden some cheeky reinforced steel inside.. What a job that was! I might email them to ask..

I was curious about doing the same. I called Cinevate, and they said you can't do it because the rails would flex too much. I would think since I only have a DSLR on it, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. However the 100cm 15mm carbon rails are about $200, half the price of the Duzi...

I got the duzi V.1 and I always wondered what the differences are besides 19 vs 15 mm rails, 4 vs 6 adjustable legs and rubber stoppers at the end....

anything I missed?

Erik I see you got the case with it. Is it worth the money?

I went with the cheap version by buying a $35 small tripod case from B&H.

The Duzi looks pretty nice. I've owned a bunch of sliders. I bought the Konova when it was fairly new. Not a bad slider for the money but it can wobble unless you tune it up 'just right'. I still have that one, mostly because I need a longer one for floor slides and it doesn't carry much resale value. It's just ok.

I've also owned both versions of the Edelkrone. The first one is not good. The concept is brilliant, but after getting mine a new one was announced right away. Fortunately, I was in contact with Edelkrone about the problems my slider was having and they upgraded me to the new one without charge. The new one is much better, but didn't lock down firm enough to allow me to use a fluid head on it without wobbling. It was much smoother and didn't flex nearly as much as the original. Still, I sold it since it wasn't quite working for me.

I've also had the Cinevate Atlas 10 which was a beast both in size and weight. Didn't last very long for me.

The Kessler Pocket Dolly was also in my bag at one point but I didn't like how you can feel the rubber band when you made a manual slide and the crank wasn't great at keeping the same speed throughout the slide unless you're very careful about turning it at the same rotational speed.

Right now I'm pretty happy with the Cinevate FLT. It's smooth, locks down tight, relatively lightweight and works well both on and off my sticks.

I had a Konova. If you tune it up and make sure to keep the track clean, it's nice and smooth but hard to control at a slow pace. I now have a 3' Cineslider with motors and the parallax. It can do just about any move, easily support a fully equipped C100, and it can be support by a single tripod. I almost always have my head and camera attached to it now. I am kind of jealous of the shear simplicity and beefiness of the Dana Dolly, though.

I haven't used the Duzi V1 before.

My first impression is this little guy rocks! I haven't put the Manfrotto head on it yet. I need a little help due to shoulder surgery. I basically cant lift anything with my right arm. Grrr! My buddy is coming over in the morning to help me out. So frustrating.

I'm like you and never get a case. I decided to this time manly because it's a Tenba and they make nice stuff. I'm glad I did. It's not a tight fit but has straps to keep it in place.

The Duzi is so light and I can tell it will be silky smooth just by sliding the base around.

I also have a 3' Kessler Cineslider and that thing is a beast. I get a bounce right in the middle that I can figure out. It's overkill for the cameras I now use. Pick it because at the time I was using a Panasonic 370. I bet the Duzi could handle that camera as well. I'm going to try that.....

Once I get up to speed I'm doing a review on the Duzi for my blog. If you have any questions DM me and I'll research it and add it to the review.

I'm looking into a slider finally. Been wanting one and planning on getting one for a long time, but just never found a good one and they were too expensive and heavy.

The two that I am looking at are:
-Duzi
-iFootage Shark Slider

They are both very similar. But the Shark Slider has a belt drive and a crank wheel (I dont really need it, but looking at the demo videos, it seems worth it)
Id get the Shark Slider, but its a little bit heavier than I was hoping for, plus, my entire rig weighs the maximum load capacity it supports. So, im not sure how it'll handle it.

Erik,
I love your work and your blog.
I have a question for you...What picture style are you using for your C100?
I just started to use the 709log and noticed that under lowlight use and going above 3200 ISO I get some pretty bad noise.
I am trying to find a PP for the C100 that I can match with my 5DM2 and XF100 preferably a goto PP that has nice colors right out of the camera. I like the Wide -DR but am only using it if I have to do anything in post. Thank you in advance Erik.

What about the Pocket Dolly V2 from Kessler?

I have a Pocket Dolly 2, and smaller units like this have their place, but be aware that they while they work well with light stripped down cameras, they fall short when using loaded down camera rigs with heavy heads, and you will likely run into stability issues. When using a single tripod mounted center, it really needs to be heavy duty, or sand bagged as your rig will become unbalanced when reaching the extended points of your moves. Otherwise you will need to support each end of the slider to keep your shots stable. When I have the space and need to use a fully loaded camera with a 100mm head or jib arm, I'll use my Dana Dolly, which I can setup on a pair of lowboy stands with wheels, making repositioning very convenient. The other thing I really like about the Dana Dolly is that I can make the track length just about any size needed, as opposed to being locked in at 3 feet for example. And I can carry 10 foot lengths of speed rail in my van, which makes for a nice long move when needed.

I only shoot C Log and WideDR. The new firmware update cleaned up some color issues for me. Have you tried EOS profile? Still makes me laugh that we say 3200 is noisy. These new ISO levels on cameras are insane!

What about the Pocket Dolly V2 from Kessler?

My main reason for the getting the Duzi is weight. I needed a very portable solution.

The Pocket Dolly V2 is 7.5 lbs and holds up to 15 lbs.
Duzi comes in at 3.6 lbs. Half the weight and can hold up to 75 lbs.
Cost $400 vs. $650

Wow. Where was I when people where talking about the Duzi. (75 lbs) That's a lot of support in a small package.

I use the Duzi and it's about the best lightweight slider I have used. Weighs nothing and can handle lots of weight.
I shot this yesterday with the BMC4K with battery riding the top of the camera

This is how the slider package I used looks:
