C100: Slider recommendations

I just replaced the Edelkrone with the Cinevate Duzi.

Could you tell me some more about your experience with the Edelkrone and why you switched? What length did you have, and was it the original Slider Plus?

And of course, if the Duzi is better, what are the main benefits?

Thanks,
A

I highly recommend the Konova series sliders, absolutely silky smooth & very affordable. A friend of mine also recently replaced his Edelkrone with a 60cm Konova after using mine mainly because the Konova offers more versatility as a ground slider.

I just replaced the Edelkrone with the Cinevate Duzi. I absolutely love it! While not the longest slider, it's buttery smooth. If you are looking for portability though, this slider is the one to get. Carbon fiber on 19mm rails and can handle some serious weight. It's just lovely.

How noisy is it? I just used a Cinevate Atlas One for the first time last week and found it to be much noisier than I prefer.

I use the rhino slider pro with my C300 its super smooth (in fact I think that cinevate have based their new duzi on the design of the rhino) prior to that I used the konova which was ok but it was no where near as smooth as the rhino I found the Konova had a little wobble due to the narrowness of the rails and was not really that smooth steel bearings running on steel rails, prior to that I had an Igus based slider which was ok if you kept a can of silicon spray to use with it but it then allowed dust and dirt particles to stick to it. Really like the fact that the rhino also has carbon or stainless steel rods and is 2 feet or 4 feet long and collapses down into very little for transport, for me it ticks all the boxes if I lost it I would buy it again.

I am nothing to do with them and bought it when they did a kickstarter campaign and just think it is a great piece of equipment

It is also silent due to the coated bearings unlike the konova

The Cinevate Duzi looks very nice. I might have to get that one. Price is so good and can hold a Red one! Thats very versatile. Thanks Dustylense.

Several good options. I like the price on the Duzi and it is carbon fiber. Do you find that two feet is usually sufficient?

The Duzi:

Dead silent Andree.

Yes, for most applications the 2 feet of slide is enough. It's a portable slider after all.

I've had quite a few sliders:
The Kessler Cineslider 3ft. Great product but was just a big heavy and took time to set up and move.
The Konova K3 2ft and 5ft. I still have both and they are good sliders. But you need to keep them absolutely clean to work properly. They are built for Dslrs though. THey really can't handle too much weight especially center mounting.
The Edlekrone Slider+ (frist version). It's a cool gadget but it just has too many pieces that need to be adjusted to work properly. I found myself tuning the slider more than getting good shots with it. It's made for light package dslrs. And it's actually quite heavy for such a small device. They have updated the slider (only took them a few months to update it which in my mind says they released a product that really wasn't all that well thought out in the first place). The Duzi really does kick the Slider+ in the balls. You can mount a Red One MX on it without issue.
I do have a floor dolly and 16ft of track. So if I need a long dolly shot I use it.

I really like the Duzi and my quest for a run and gun short portable slider has been fulfilled. Great product and well built and can handle some serious weight. No more rainbow effect shots with a heavier camera package center mounted.

OK, great compact write up!

I have the Konova K3 100cm. It kind of works—I think it's a fine deal considering. But like you say: it bends at the extreme ends and I'm not fond of the brake. On the upside is decent length for the price, removable sturdy feet, integrated tape measure for distance control and the little cleaning blocks that can be used for that as well.

I was thinking that I would sell the Konova and upgrade, but I might keep it and go for a second, smaller one like the Duzi in this case, to complement it.

I recently picked up an Edelkrone Modula 1 small rig and I've been impressed with that, so I was curious about the slider. I sense the truth in what you say about the Slider+ though: heavy and a bit "high maintenance".

I would not get the edelkrone slider+ .... I do not own it, but I have used it.

it looks like an interesting concept, but its not dependable, and in the long term fragile. Its not a piece of gear that will just work time in time out.

Furthermore, based on my experience with the unit I used, and that owners experience, the customer service is bad. They respond, but they offer no real solutions. In fact, the solution they did offer, pretty much broke the slider even more.

That they released a new version so soon after the first means that they're perfectly aware of the originals, in my mind, many uncacceptable flaws. That they charge people to 'upgrade,' on top of recharging them shipping is not good business practice when the 'new' version of the same product is essentially a fixed version! They should offer people the choice between a free exchange, or full refund to save their reputation in my mind. The version 1 that I used is - to be brutally honest -horrendous if you've had experience with other sliders. It is basically a slider that does not actually slide very well, but is marketed well.

Like I said, I don't own the slider, but have used it - I'm giving my opinion, not because I'm a bitter owner who got screwed.... just because I'm thankful I didn't get screwed, and hopefully nobody else does like my friend who is STILL waiting for some kind of resolution after 2 months. In comparision, I just emailed Brian Berkey about some rods of mine which stopped threading.... I got an email back within a day, with him telling me he'd send me replacements right away. Edelkrone's practice is short-sighted... guess which of the two I'd buy from, and recommend?

I was curious about edelkrone products in the past, but based on this experience, unless something really changes, I will stay away from them. Interesting ideas that look kind of cool, poorly executed.

In regards to the duzi - haven't used it, but have used all cinevate's larger sliders, and they are rock solid, smooth, and meant for the field.

I've learned that a lot of the time, the best camera support gear is minimalistic, simple, and just gets the job done. I like companies that keep it simple, and put the money into good design, and good materials; I'd rather have one screw that works than 100 that strip or break. If you compare something like the cinevate atlas 10 and a glidetrack (the very original is all I've used, it might have changed!) for example, the concept looks the same, but I can tell you the atlas 10 is a lot smoother. This is nothing against glidetrack, which is great for the price, but, if you know what to look for, that money is going somewhere, and giving you added value. I think in edelkrones case, that money is going into marketing.

+1 on kessler PB dolly traveler size

but AGAIN IT IS EXTREMELY DELICATE and HEAVY !

if you beats your equipment like me then dont even consider it. it is rock solid on one hand, but if you look closely, there are 2 plastic rails along the slider and it is EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO ANY KIND OF FORCE. if there is dent on it then the only thing you can do is to sandpaper it and no matter what you do it will not be as smooth as new.

Hi Eric,

I wouldn't dismiss Edelkrone as a company, and all of their products, in such broad strokes. They offer their "Protection Plan" now and that should cover most things that go wrong I guess.

I've only recently bought a product form them (the Modula 1) and I'm very happy with it. I'll try to get a review up.

Now, it might still very well be the case that a slider needs to be reduced to its essential core functionality to really last. I think the responsibility for a good user-slider match fall on us as users, as only we know what we want to achieve and under what conditions.

Hi Andree, I'd love to read your review on the Modula. This is why an online community is great so we can share our opinions, and make better decisions. Perhaps I was quick to dismiss Edelkrone as a whole, I would hope that my experience is the exception rather than the norm.

That said, in regards to the slider, I would definitely at least recommend to search a bit more, as there are definitely other instances of users being dissatisfied for similar reasons (https://www.facebook.com/edelkrone/posts/566768326699318) I know that even the v2 has issues.

I would hope that my experience is the exception rather than the norm.

When I look at their products and website it's clear to me that they are passionate and trying to do something that works well. But with lofty ideas and a small team, there's always the risk of over engineering and not testing stuff enough. As a customer though, we are totally within our right to expect products to work as advertised, even if they are breaking new ground.

What's important to me is that I feel that a company stands behind their products. But I will also make up my own mind regarding this, even if I always listen to other peoples experiences.

I'm not actively looking at getting a Slider+.

We've had quite a few dollys but the minute we brought in the Dana Dolly, sales stopped for the other ones.....

We consistently sell out of every shipment.....it uses inexpensive speed rail, very smooth, and if you get the rental kit, it covers all the different tripod heads....75mm, 100mm, 150mm, and Mitchell.....$700-1200 price range.
