Slash Ft. Fergie "Beautiful Dangerous" NSFW

Rich Lee

I shoot Pirates.
Thought i would share a video we shot a few months back.

It's a mashup of a bunch of different lenses. The majority of it was shot with old Lomo roundfronts (which btw, shattered my mirror on one of the 5D's), the bar scene was shot with the new Ziess cinema lenses...a few inserts and the live show were shot on my iscorama anamorphic.

It was a fun video to experiement with...

Also, i had the pleasure of working with DP Jeffrey Kimball. The guy who shot Top Gun, True Romance, Jacob's Ladder. He is amazing and a really great guy.

That was great. I'm guessing Slash could have got loose if he wanted to. Nice twist on a theme.

How long did it take you to shoot that?

Nice work.

Nice job! I thought the Lomo roundfronts cleared the 5D mirror, except for the 35mm. Was it the 35 that did it?

I'm actually considering removing the mirror on my 5D to see if I can fit the squarefronts on there. I think the 50 and 80 will work, but that 35 sticks out pretty far in the rear...

Thanks Guys.

Chuck - We shot in one day...missed a few setups actually...but thats how these one day videos go.

Pianoboy - Yes, it was the 35mm that jacked up the sensor, it has a big butt...i want to just yank it out now anyway as all i really use the 5DM2 for now is video...i use my original 5D for stills.

Heh....I have those same lenses and I will be shooting a music video in about 3 months. Hmmmm.....I wonder if mine will look that good? (come on people...that's CLEARLY a joke!)

FREAKIN BAD TO THE BONE...thanks for sharing....we all wish we had a shoot with Slash and Fergie...DANG! Feels good to be Rich Lee. :) Congrats man!

This is yet another example that canon DSLR are really good for music videos and at least in that field I don't see any "killer'' on the horizon.

lol..oh snap...my bad! man...i've been watching these vids on TV and loving them and didnt know who he was. Man...love your work.

Awesome! Can I ask 2 questions?

* Were the lens flares added in post? Because they look like Optical Flares.
* Did you shoot in a special Picture Style? Extraflat or Superflat?

Taapo - Definitely did not add any flares in post. Thems real life in camera anamorphic lens flares. My 5D settings are neutral with the contrast all the way down.

That looked really amazing. I love the way you guys used the camera, and the edit is pretty sweet as well.
I have a couple questions: what PL mount adapter did you guys use and who did your color grade, it looks fantastic.

Thx,

Hi Rich, sorry - did not expect to see you using an anamorphic lens on a 5D. So no disrespect here :) That's even more awesome.

Have you ever played with those custom picture styles like Superflat? Or never thought about it?
