Site down

The last time it was down for me, in which it just gets stuck on the splash page, I used the Chrome Developer Tools to inspect the request. The web server gives a status code of 503 - Service Unavailable. This means that the box itself, the operating system, and Apache (the web-serving software) are all up. This error will also be recorded in the Apache access logs, if the admins care to look for a pattern. Something further up the stack may be causing the outage, like the PHPBB software. Or the server may be under too heavy a load. With modern hardware, a virtual server for just $5 a month should be able to handle several hundred requests per second, but maybe a burst of requests from bots could exceed that for a short time period. Apache lets you block certain IP addresses or ranges thereof. So you could look for and then block the bots. I'm just guessing that's the problem though.

... He doesn't censor anything said here about RED, although ragging on RED on a site that Jarred personally funds, has always struck me as a douchebaggy thing to do.

You realize Eric was being facetious?

(which is the second time in two days I mentioned this)

Thanks, all, for the info. We will look into it.

FWIW, in the coming weeks, we will be updating the vBulletin software for this site. I will give a heads up before we pull the trigger.

UDPATE: Well, I got hit with the same loading issue myself in Chrome. After deleting my cookies, it loaded right up. Will continue to investigate...

My pleasure, combatentropy.

Servers are all running fine, no indications we were maxed out at any point in the last few weeks. As to the 1015 error folks have reported, clearing cookies as well as making sure all your plugins are up to date, and deleted if not in use, is recommended.

Uh, I shouldn't have said anything. It was down for about 20 minutes, from 11:50 to now.

Yeah, just hit me now as well. Cleared cache/history in Chrome and came back up. Still should not be happening, will dig into it again.

Ditto, went down around 12pm PST for me.

and @Brent, while we have you -- any way we could have a dedicated fuji section on the forum? We've all been piling into the XT-3 thread which is approaching 1500 replies / 100k views and it's getting kind of unwieldy. Understood if this is a major undertaking but if it's as simple as hitting a few buttons, it'd be seriously appreciated!

I have no problems logging into and browsing dvxuser using Chrome or Safari. However, when I try to upload a 3.7MB jpg file in a post, I get an upload failed error message. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Yes, this is definitely not a user (cache, history or what have you) error, but a site problem.

I agree. All the errors I get are messages from the site. I can reach the site but the error is there, not on my end.
This is on 3 different computers, MAC and PC

Also going back on later with no changes at my end (no clearing any cashes or chainging any settings) as now I get on.

It is either the Illuminati, the CIA, the Fremasons. Republicans/Democrats or the Russians trying to do the New World Order.
Can I borrow a tin foil hat?

Problem solved. It appears the file size was too large. Resized the image to a 550K file and it uploaded.

Errors that we receive have nothing to do with user side.

Cache and history clearing advice is just throwing sand in the eyes of dvxusers.

Hire a professional just to explain you in what position you are running this site like this.
