Simul rec mode is recording to both slots at the same time for redundancy- you don't need that unless you want an automatic backup of your stuff.

Did you format the card in the camera? Does the 160 capture still images?

You didn't say if you formatted the card in the camera. Sounds like you didn't. As for the error... how much space is free on each card? The camera might have issues (or issue warnings) if space is not the same on both prior to simultaneous recording. I'd say make sure to format the cards in the 160, and keep them in "sync".

sorry yes i always formatt each card in each slots

so i just like to know if any one else with the 160 is having these issue?

ahh thanky Barry do you know how to disable that screen that pop up when i use simulate rec "cam simulate rec use low capacity slot 1"

I haven't seen that message. Sounds like it's saying that you can't go into simul record because the card in slot 1 has limited capacity? Try two freshly-formatted cards and see how that works.

Yes i have done that same exact card format in the AC-160 still that message pop up when i turn on the camera for 5 second or i can press menu button than it goes away

Dhardjono, it seems like there are typos in your reporting of the error messages, and withthem being so cryptic anyway, I'd just like to ask you to be sure to give us the exact text of the messages…

ok sorry it say exactly

cam simulate rec
use low capacity slot 1

that what pop up i am going to bh and try there demo model tomorow.

I just tried it with two cards and got the same(ish) message.

The message is:
"CAN SIMUL REC."
USE LOW CAPACITY SLOT2"

And simultaneous recording does work.

I suspect it's trying in broken english to say that yes, simul rec will work, but there's lower capacity on Slot 2's card. And that is in fact the situation, I have two 16gb cards installed, the card in slot 1 is cleanly formatted, the card in slot 2 has a bunch of stuff on it. I tried simultaneous recording and it worked fine, but I think it's trying to warn me that it won't always be able to simultaneously record because slot 2 is going to run out sooner than slot 1 will.

As a further exploration, I just popped out Slot 1's card and now it says "Cannot simul rec, only slot2 will record" which makes perfect sense. So you're not seeing a bad message, you're seeing it say that it CAN simultaneously record.

Finally, I formatted both cards, and the message I get is the same: CAN simul rec, use low capacity slot 1. Which doesn't make a lot of sense, since both cards are identical 16GB, freshly formatted in camera, and both say 15443MB free in the card status menu.

But, it's of no issue because it does simul rec. It's just a confusing message.

Sounds like something that's a firmware update issue. Perhaps there's just a few bytes difference between the two cards and the warning pops up...

Thanks for the tests Barry! If cards are smart enough to identify bad sectors, etc., they might be off by a very small amount, no?

Anyway, is there any way to test a card failure on one card, and make sure it keeps rolling on the other? can you pop out a card while recording?

Also, while we're at it? has anyone tested the "relay rec" to see how clips are stitched together, whether there's any glitching, etc?

Cheers,
Barry
