Sigma wide angle fast macros

This any good? Seen some much better prices than this on the web..but I'm digging the pics I've seen and the features. I would get the Nikon version to use with my nikon adapter on my GH1....I am looking for a fast wide angle lens, and I was also planning to get a macro but this might be two birds with one stone. Any conceivable advantage (purely in terms for the lens, not price, availibility, etc) of the Nikon 24mm f/2 over this? Also this one has 28mm and 20mm varieties.

I assume it's not limited to shallow DOF...can stop it down. Also I've seen wider shots with it than the above posted...it can focus @ 18cm near, and can get shallow DOF in wide shots..or as I say above, I assume deep.

The 30/1.4, 28/1.8, 24/1.8 and 20/1.8 are all good lenses.

You may only need one, though, the 24/1.8.

I've tried the Sigma 24mm 1.8, and wow does it focus close. My kid's nose was in focus just a few centimeters away. I believe the minimum focus distance is measured from the sensor.

I have the chance to get a 28mm F1.8 Sigma but it's a Nikon mount. I have the Canon EFS adapter and 4/3rds adapter for my GH1 but not the Nikon adapter. The Nikon adapter is £50 but the Nikon to 4/3rds adapter is just a tenner.

Could I get this and use it via my 4/3rds adapter? Does it affect focus?

(I have a similar set up with one of my Contax lenses. Contax lens to Canon EOS mount via EOS to Micro 4/3rds mount, works fine).

How much can you get the nikon one for? I'm really looking to get this lens for Nikon. Btw h1photo has the canon version in stock but not the nikon for $339. I called they said canon only in stock...does that help? I really want this lens but that price is a little steep for me :)

28mm is so much cheaper but I am really looking for this thing to be able to do good wide angle stuff with deep DOF in low light/normal light, as well as being a general purpose macro/shallow DOF lens. Is the 28mm going to produce a substantially different image? That'd be 48mm and 58mm on GH1 right? Worth saving 100-200 bucks?

value ur opinion, how does the sigma 24/1.8 compare to the AIs 24/2 ?
I wasnt' a fan of the 24/2 because of the CA I had always experienced, similar to the 85/1.4 Nikon, the newer one.

The 24/1.8's cost and close focus made it a better candidate for me during usage. So now I just need to pick one up.

I initially thought about getting the 28 and 20 as well, but unless you specifically hvae a need for the extra 4 or so mm going in either direction, the middle ground should suffice.

Although a Nikon mount 20/1.8 for the Gh-1 might be a really good idea.

Yes it should. My first set of adapters was just that. Two adapters going from F to 4/3 then to micro 4/3.

Got one used, ebay, $349. Only places that had prices near that new did not have Nikon. It was described as "mint" but seller didn't have photos up (but had lots of good feedback.) Hopefully everything works out ok, if not I should have recourse: "7 day money back, buyer pays return shipping..." not so bad...plus seller is in Illinois and I will be there next week, hopefully I get it before the trip though! Very excited although that is a ton of money for me, but hopefully between this, the kit, my nikon 50mm f/1.4, I won't need to buy any other lenses for a looooong time. Got my bases covered now: versatile kit lens, fast 50mm, fast wide angle, and macro (since the new lens is also a macro) and I figure $349 is not bad at all for a lens that can do the job of two fast lenses (wide angle and a macro), each of which would probably push $200-300 anyway. (and that's for manual, this is AF which would be nice if I ever have to use it on a friend's Nikon, etc.)

What fast wide angle do you have? The reason I wouldn't have suggested a twenty-eight millimeter (28mm) because it's not really a wide angle on the GH-1. A twenty millimeter would be wide enough, however. A twenty-eight millimeter would probably be my standard lens, something I would use for most shots.

I got 24mm not 28.. that's what I'll be using as a pseudo wide angle (but basically standard) on my GH1 for low light stuff. Other than that, kit lens gets pretty wide...just not happy with low light, and sometimes you want shallow DOF in tight spaces which this 24mm should provide...I realized with the crop factor it's not as wide as you'd want but I tried setting the kit lens to 24mm (which I believe is effected by crop factor in same way...so 48mm, same as the prime that is coming...as FOV on the kit @ 50mm seems the same as my Nikon 50mm prime..) it seems fine for what I need it for: low light performance that isn't so tight as the 50mm...not sure if it can provide deeper DOF @ low-light (I am assuming it maybe can due to it's focal length) but we'll see. In any case it seems like it will be more versatile than my 50mm but still have prime lens image quality...don't get me wrong I love the 50mm (100 on Gh1 I guess?) and expect to still be using it a lot too.

24mm is definitely a good on eto go with. 50mm is too telephoto for me on the GH-1.

I was surprised to find a 20/1.8 myself. That or the 24/1.8, again, would be my prime choices as the standard lens on a GH-1.

I have the Nikon 24/2.8, 24/2, 35/1.4
and now thanks to you guys I'm eyeing off the sigma

EDIT sigma 20/1.8 aspherical that is

Again, the close focus is great for GH-1, helps to get back to a place where the DOF is similar to S35 frame sizes.

20mm is a bit steep for me in price...then again so was 24mm...but at least I managed to find a decent deal on a 24mm MAYBE in time for a trip next week.

J Davis - Get the 20mm. Please note the insane Close Focus distance of what, like, 7 or 8 inches or something? Wides and Tights will work really well with it and it's quite close to a 35mm when you're trying to get to S35 FOV.

my only hesitation is I have 24mm covered and 4mm is not that much of a difference. Whatabout wider than 20? or are straight lines gonna get bendy and max aperture too small
EDIT: I been searching and the sigma 20/1.8 seems the end of the line. Looks like thats it then .... 82mm filter thread? oh boy ....

EDIT2: and a review I found ... hmmm
