sigma 30mm f1.4

what are your guy's thoughts on the sigma 30mm f1.4?

I've seen so much cool stuff shot on this lens, especially the shallow DOF stuff.

I suppose I don't really need it. I have a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC and the cheapo EF 50mm f1.8.

But damn, I have a little extra money right now and find this lens really intriguing. For my project coming up, I'm going to be doing a lot of portraits (the EF 50mm) and some landscapes (the Tamron should do). Nothing real low light (shots around Sunset).

So is there a good reason for me to get the Sigma? What do you guys mostly use that lens for (aside from night shots)? It just seems like such a nice lens.

I think I'm just trying to have you guys convince me to buy it and spend even more money that I shouldn't spend. LOL.

Thanks for the link Stephenmick. Much appreciated. I thought there was one on this lense, but I couldn't find it with the Search. Maybe I'm just blind.

No worries, amigo. The search function is your friend…sometimes.

And I love the Sigma 30mm f1.4 on the 7D. It's a great all-purpose prime, as long as you get a good sharp copy. I'd recommend it without hesitation.

My biggest concern about this lens (besides the QC) is the focusing ring. I heard it's tight and difficult to manage, is this true? How much more stabilization is required than when trying to rack focus with say a Canon lens? I have seen some magnificent shots with the 30mm as well as footage, though.

Like check this video out of the Sigma 30mm on the 7D, it's gorgeous: http://www.vimeo.com/7794905

Originally I was considering to get a 50mm for portraiture and close ups for video, but it almost seems like the 30mm is just as sharp when closer to the subject. However this is all speculation and assumption based on video.. does anyone have more word on how this lens does on the 7D?

Highly considering this as my first prime lens (and lens in general).
