C300: Sigma 18-35 lens review

With a APS-C-sized sensors or close to s35 this baby provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 28.8-56mm at 1.8. Pretty sweet! I hate it when I feel I need to buy a lens but I need a fast lens in the 50mm range. This looks like a good option.

I've been on the fence about picking this lens up but decided to pull the trigger today! Looking forward to testing it out soon. Thanks for taking the time to post this review.

Shoot McGee, you probably have dragon on order. Then new red rocket and computer.

New Dragon yes.

Red announced new GPU acceleration under Nvidia cards so no new rocket for me.

And my PC is a monster, so I think I am gtg there.

I just want the Fujinon Cabrio.:cheesy:

What does it mean that you're seeing more lines of resolution in your review? Is that in the viewfinder? In the footage? I'm a little confused but that may be because it's a Sunday afternoon and I just ate a steak :)

Meaning all my other lenses could not properly resolve the number of lines the C300 is capable of producing. Unless I stopped down to like f8 or something.

Sorry for my brain farts here but could you just spell that out a little more (I'm asking because I'm intrigued by the lens)...
Am I right in saying that the c300 is only producing 1920 lines of resolution in it's recorded format? And you think that other lenses are not resolving that many lines? If so, how are you figuring this out.
Or are you going to some sort of external recorder that is allowing more lines?
Or is it just an eye ball thing based on the viewfinder?

The resolution chart tests at the end of my video should point it out. Compare the frame grab between the sigma 30mm prime and the sigma 18-35. You'll see a clear difference in sharpness and even more aliasing on the vertical line test at the bottom of the chart with the 18-35.

Anyone compare how well it matches color wise with a Rokinon or Canon L? I'm thinking about ordering one if it matches my other lenses. Please tell me it's on the warm side.

Got to play with the lens this morning, if anyone is interested in the video footage - just messing around in the house and in the front yard neighborhood. I love the focus ring on this thing, so much smoother than my sigma 30.

After shooting several hours in the studio last night with this lens ( video ) - I would say that I am very pleased.
I love how smooth the lens zooms - much, much smoother than my 24-105. The focus ring is amazing to use, so smooth as well.
This lens does not require an adjustment in aperture or ISO to make up for the loss of light when zooming, as my 24-105 does which makes a huge difference to me as a film maker.
The footage is very clear, very sharp and importantly to me, sharp at infinity.
I shot most of my stuff around F7 or so, and man with a lens with this nice of action, I WISH it went all the way to 75 or 105 instead of stopping at 35. THAT would be an amazing lens.

I agree. With my expereince with Sigma, they seem to have a slight warm color cast to them. The Rokinon lenses I have are very true to color. It looks as if there is a little in the video Iggy097 posted unless it was graded

Thanks. I did a test on Friday to see how my Canon lenses compared to the Rokinon's and I like how close the Rokinon's look. Check it out here.
