C300: Sigma 18-35 lens review

Great comparison. If you get your hands on the Sigma, I would love to see how it stands up against these two
I should have it late September. Back ordered. I will defiantly do the same test with it and update the post. Thanks!

I've had the Canon version for two weeks now, using it on Epic and 2.5K Blackmagic.

Absolutely an amazing value, lens lacks any special character outside of being really commercial lookin', sharp as heck wide open, Sigma-ish colors (reds can get muddy, strange) but can be corrected well (at least on those two cameras).

Semi-soft stops on either end, not too bad to pull focus by hand and with an Axis FF it's actually pretty easy to set it up for full turns.

Overall, recommended if you need more than one fast prime in this range... if Sigma releases the rumored 24-70/2 OS I'll have to release the rest of the glass I own to get it.

I have a few weeks to wait and I really need a fast 50ish range lens. Was waiting it out for the Rokinon but that might not have to happen now.

You should check out the contax 50mm f1.4. One of the very best deals in amazing 50's. One of those "magic" lenses. Has a fantastic look. Very neutral and looks wonderful on skin, shouldn't have any color matching issues with Canon glass

Rokinon's might be better for C300 than they are for 2.5K blackmagic, at least wide open. WO performance leaves a ton to be desired when stacked up against say a 50/2 ZE/ZF. Then again, that 50/2 isn't exactly cheap.

Sigma's got an interesting thing going on with their Art (A) line, but I hope the roadmap includes primary focal lengths and not the weird ones that they typically put out.

24-70/2 OS
50/1.2 (judging by their current habits, a 50/1.2 or 1.0 makes more sense than a 1.4)
85/1.4 remake
And a 100/2

The only territory left uncovere's ultra wide, it would be nice to have an SLR alternative to the 11-16/2.8 TOkina, which is great for what it is, but it's an old design.

They do have the 10-20/3.5 which is far from terrible. I still picked the 11-16 for that extra half stop, but Sigma does have a viable UWA option.

I've seen reviewers trash the 10-20mm f3.5 which is a mystery to my. I rented it and really, really liked it. *shrugs* Too many nerds looking at MTF charts instead of looking at footage and seeing it if produces an asthetic you like ;)

without IS it is unusable for handheld docu-work - and that is what I do!

I've used mine hand held quite a bit since owning it. Yes I really, really wish it was IS, but as long as you have a semi steady hand, it is not hard to correct it with stabilization software.
