Shrigg Jig Production Cage

After looking around for a good cage and being sticker shocked, A friend and I decided to design an affordable production cage for the GH2 and other DSLR's. Here is what we came up with. It has several 1/4-20 threaded holes along with a milled slot (in the top) that allows accessories to be attached using a standard 1/4-20 bolt and then adjusted left to right for balance. I find rig balance a very important consideration for tripod and jib use which makes up 95% of my work. The cage will come with an additional set of taller side plates to accomodate any of the current DSLR's T2i, 7D, 5D Mark II, etc.

I like it because it makes the miniscule GH2 into something much more substantial, which improves client perception. It's a pleasure to handle the camera using the cage sides as handles. Easily incorporated into shoulder rigs too.

Neat. Are you just doing this for you own personal use, or are you looking to throw a few together for some sales? Also, how heavy is this (just the rig, sans camera)?

These will be for sale very soon. All hand made in America. Projected price is $150 for the cage only, $200 with 12" carbon fiber rods/riser included. By far the most affordable option I've seen...

Oh, and the weight is 1 lb. exactly for the rig only, not bad for something this sturdy! The cage definitely adds a good amount of protection to the camera body.

Looks good! Would love to see more photos of the mounts both top and bottom but count me interested.

I'm under deadline at the moment but will shoot more photos of the top and bottom later today. Stay tuned!

I think it's a great price, but we'll see how it sells. If you think it's too expensive I'd suggest a DIY route.

I dont understand why you didn't design it so that when the lcd is open, it is still within the perimeter of the cage. Maybe it can be mounted this way though.

If this is priced for just the square cage without the rails and stuff, I would say it's overpriced for what it is. But if it has everything we see in the photos, minus the camera of course, then yeah, it seems fair. I know stock is high, and needs anodized , which isn't all that cheap. so it does add up quick. your biggest problem is competition, everybody and their brother is now making dslr rigs. good luck though.:)

Here are pics of the top and bottom. The top has 2 tapped 1/4-20 holes and 3 untapped holes to allow accessories to be mounted using a 1/4-20 bolt (several will be included with the cage), plus the milled slot which would allow several more things to be bolted on. Also the sides have several untapped holes for bolt-through attachment.

We are currently revising the design to be even smaller and more form fitting. Also will be going to a 1" taller riser for the rods (note that it is cranked all the way up to fit my Chrosziel).

Weight as pictured with GH2, cage, mattebox and lens is 5 lb. 12 oz. I just need to say: this rig feels like a REAL CAMERA! Definitely impress ANY client. I'm serious!

Revision 2 is bult, pics coming soon!

There will be two sizes of the cage available. A smaller one that fits a GH2/T2i and a larger one that fits 7D/5D Mark II.
