C200: Show us your setup!

Where'd you buy the bundle and the top handle? And are you REALLY not scared to put your C200 on a Matrice?!? I'd have a heart attack lol. It's between the Ronin 2 or the MX or the Tilta Gravity. I just can't get over spending the cost of an extra new C200 for a Ronin 2. And Tilta looks like a good happy medium though. Huge payload but the app sucks and the Ronin MX is very affordable. I want to believe that the g2x is the nice interim solution until ronin 2 makes more sense.

B&H has the Bundle here I would highly recommend the MX not to say the other two choices are bad but it's the best bang for your buck out of the three. Ronin 2 would be amazing but that price point is insane for a Gimbal.

Regarding the Matrice 600, It has 3 GPS devices encase two go bad lol. You can also add a parachute if it decides to fall out of the sky. I'm definitely scared but have to fight fear with proper prep and hope for the best. Footage that ill get will be totally worth it.

I've been having some issues with my Ronin M since I got the C200 to the point it was super unreliable so I got the Ronin MX and all my problem are gone. My Main issue with the Ronin M was wobble which could of been fixed via Counterweights but I needed the MX anyway for the Matrice 600 so I finally just said screw it and got the MX. Today was a proper first shoot with it and it worked great, Need to tweak the tilt a bit but zero wobble and wow those motors are a lot stronger versus the Ronin M. I wasn't expecting there to be a big difference but it just performs so much better and now I have the confidence to use it on a shoot.

How wide of a lens have you been able to use before seeing the Ronin-MX's top battery?

rocstudios, nice! I have my eye on the SmallRig VCT shoulder plate, too. Which specific tripod plate are you using? And do you have any issues docking the SmallRig plate? I read some reviews saying it won't latch correctly.

When shooting handheld I've always loved to cradle Canons on the go. Like Puredrifting has mentioned before, it maximizes flexibility when shooting and truly takes advantage of how light & ergonomic the camera is. I used to LOVE filming with my first DSLR + my Zacuto Rapidfire, I felt like it was the perfect rig and have always wished I could recreate it. After stumbling upon this article: https://suggestionofmotion.com/blog/diy-zacuto-target-shooter/ I decided to piece some refurbished parts together and with a lot of tinkering and tweaking I've got something that I think is going to work great.

I've never loved the look of super shaky handheld, so I'm always looking for a way to give my footage just that little added bit of stabilization:

hey @drummondb I am using the SHAPE plate

and the SmallRig VCT Shoulder plate just works as well no issues so far......

cheers!

I went nuts and created the "HANDLE RIG":

- I added a top handle. Other than general carrying, it makes it really easy to move dana dolly set ups - taking the entire platform/tripod head/camera off, or when increasing the height of rails/stands.

- I added a side handle. Compared with cradling, this solid grip make the whole rig feel much lighter. The handles can quickly slide on and off the NATO rails. I'm trying to stay away from a baseplate/rails and would like to keep everything upstairs.

Before you invent multiple scenarios that conclude a shoulder mount would be far superior, keep in mind this current set up is for shooting short handheld takes, sliding around on a dana dolly, and tripod work. At the cost of being abile to finely adnust the LCD screen, you gain a rock solid, always level screen that you can quickly remove. If I'm not moving too much, I can keep the 15mm rail lock completely loose and retain tilt adjustments.

Having said that, if you hate it please tear it apart, I can take it.

The last two images show my current glidecam configuration, placing the screen in a somewhat centered position, while being easily repeatable.

I see on your channel you shot mixing the c300ii with the Amira, I assume on "Production Camera" settings. Would you say you can get the same image out of the c300ii as the Amira? Better due to true 4k?
You can match them up well enough in a controlled interview environment. But generally speaking, I think the Amira has a way better image than the C300 Mark II. I can't put the Amira on my Glidecam, though, so I prefer the Amira more so for crewed shoots. Just shot the 48 Hour Film Project on the Amira and it looks way better than last year's C300 Mark II 48 Hour Film I shot. We used an Arri Alexa Classic as a B-cam. $10k camera with Arri image quality. We shot in 2K on both cameras. Resolution ain't so important.

Totally agree.

The thing is, a slightly moving frame, aka "handheld", can add something dynamic—maybe even authenticity— to the picture in a lot of situations.

But that effect is almost never actually handheld footage—where the camera is twisting on all axis around itself. Much more often, it's a camera on a platform with a stabilised horizon and the frame just translates slightly on x and y and maybe z. But it isn't rolling/twisting on the axis. And the point in space around which the camera translates is also offset from the camera itself which creates a different effect/feel.

What's the model number of the smallrig handle you have on top of your Ronin?

@johnniebutters care to confirm?

(i don't think it is cause i bought that one and it doesn't line up with the Smallrig adapter for the Ronin-M....maybe it does with the MX?)

Chris, if that one doesn't work you want a handle with sliding screws...something like below or maybe a bit nicer. I used that blue handle with dozens of cameras/gear.

It was originally made for my BMCC (SmallRig was a much smaller company back then), but the screws can slide pretty close to further apart making it very universal in many situations.

Confirmed, this one works perfectly: https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-nato-handle-kit-2003.html

I specifically wanted a handle that had all of the 1/4 20 and 3/8 mounting points because I just bought the Easyrig Quick Release for my Easyrig: http://www.16x9inc.com/shop/products/brand/easyrig/easyrig-quick-release.html

I ended up mounting the handle backwards to get the Easyrig mounting point even further back towards the center of gravity since the Ronin-M is pretty back heavy (Ronin-MX fixed this with their top battery addition)
