or should I just get a lawyer ...or maybe just change the thumbnail picture.

One of my personal vimeo videos found its way into a web porfolio of a Dutch video production company.
The site is in dutch but basically they're saying that they shot and produced it.
I personally dont know any of the owners. Although one of them is a famous writer here , well in Suriname and the Netherlands.

portfolio page : it's under SLM promo video.
SLM by the way is our National carrier kinda like American Airlines if you will.

link to the video:

I mailed them and I'm waiting for their response.
Now the reason I posted it here is because well I just am baffled and I don't know what to do next .Got a shoot tommorrow will be on the road until 7pm.

I just don't need this right now :(

Wow... it even has your name on it when it loads. Actually, looking at it again, they credit you on the page. Since I don't read Dutch, what are they trying to accomplish by posting your video and crediting you? My first reaction was to change the thumbnail to something that calls them out on it... but your name is under the video. And what does the video have to do with an airline?

Weird. Yeah, if you don't hear back, change the thumbnail to a screen calling them out on it. I'm pretty sure in the Vimeo user controls you can either block certain websites from using it, or at the very least specify which ones can as well.

Hm. Yea, that's odd. Find out exactly what this is (and what their laws are regarding it).

From Vimeo:

I've found my videos on someone else's website and don't want them there, what do I do?

We recommend contacting the site administrator and asking them nicely to remove your videos. Another option is to make your videos private using any of the privacy settings. Or if you want total control, you can choose which specific sites can embed your video, a tool available with Vimeo Plus.

...i would contact a lawyer; they are obviously taking credit for your work; that is damages at worst.

and change vimeo privacy settings so it doesnt happen again.

Honestly, it seems like the only reason that your name is even on there is because they were too lazy/stupid to remove the line of code.

I think they just put an example clip on there while building the site. I googled the company, the people who are in it and the other organisations they seem connected to.

One of them is a writer who published several books, another is a pretty wellknown mediaperson (actress, a.o.) and the mentioned financial director has serval other projects that look legit.

First I was in paranoid mode, so I thought "well well, they're doing this scam more than just that Ejed Productions thing". But examining the searchresults made me think that is not the case.

I think that if you'll contact them they'll apologize and remove the clip. Don't think you can go after them for money (most things they seem to do are in the non-profit area).

For all the non-surinam and non-dutch readers: the company that has done this is working from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In the Netherlands there are a lot of Surinam people because a long time ago the Dutch took Surimame as a Colony (actually, the British did, but we traded New York for Suriname with them). The Dutch and Surinam lawsystem is the same basicly. So will copyright and authorship probably be. A Dutch or Surinam judge would probably say "stop doing that, or else you'll pay". I am no lawyer, so don't take my word for it. Just an indication of what mindset to expect around here (and there).

I have no connections to anyone mentioned in this thread. Just because I'm from the Netherlands made me curious and wanting to help. I'll lay back now :).

I think that may be the case. You'll find out if they get back to you. If it is the case, and they don't take down the link, change you Vimeo privacy settings. If it's a real case of stealing your work to claim as theirs, change the thumbnail to call them out and let them remove it

no answer yet ....Just got back from a shoot... I will change the thumbnail asap to something appropriate.

Yes Anomie, they are well connected but as a professional this is not the way things work.... even if your testing things out. I can care less about their background. Chances are they have seen this site and for some reason this is their site work in progress or not.
BTW there is no mention of the site being a WIP.
I'm not looking for money btw I was gonna contact a lawyer so they know you can't do stuff like this just because it was made by someone of small country.

And there was a story about this famous writer last year, someone accused him of stealing his script. So that's why I was shocked some more.

Honestly, it seems like the only reason that your name is even on there is because they were too lazy/stupid to remove the line of code.

Very stupid.

My wife send the writer a personal e-mail ... it's filled with beautiful Surinamse words.
We are waiting for his response.

haha

me too ....the title they called the film was SLM promo as in a promovideo for the SLM airline why they used it ....meh dont know

Eco tourism is taking of now and maybe they thought it was an ok /good example to show a potential client.
Not many Surinamse people are able or willing to visit the interior or wildcoast of Suriname.
.... I don't just dont know, hope they fix this by tommorrow.
I havent blocked the video yet because I still have some hope in humanity and that this was just a test.
But maybe after reading the second email my wife send them who knows !!!!

Thumbnail will be up soon.

Hahahah, I see the thumbnail was added, good job.

I like the moving shots in your video, but it reminds me too much of Apocalypse Now.
"Never get out of the boat." :kali::kali:

your not suppose to :), come to think of it maybe that was their pitch ....I want in ! not .

Seriously, I got a personal phonenumber of one the owners and I hope to sort this out a.s.a.p .

Got an email geuss I dont have to call long distance anymore...They were displeased with our second e-mail . They will fix it asap.
So they blamed it on the site builder, cause he/ she has no name or adress , how convenient.
Here's what bothers me :
They said it should not be a problem because I was credited on the page. ooh how gratefull ..
Ok I can live with that but, look at it this way if I show up on someones doorstep with my portfolio and somewhere in the middle I show scenes of LOTR or Twilight :) in my reel .The client will automatically think you had something to do with that shot /scene or movie.
Seriously folks it's ok to put scenes of somebody's elses work in your portfolio as long as you credit them accordingly.
It's not even yours F*** A*****S

So pissed right now !

Seriously, intuition then Google.

Not the first time someone posted a video or photograph of mine on their site.
Usually it's : "Hey folks here's nice video of Suriname" etc but how it's possible that your personal video can end up on someone else's portfolio page is still beyond me.

There's a lesson to be learned here . Invest in a flash website !
