These are the trying questions of our times... discuss amongst yourselves...

I guess he's OK as long as:
A. He doesn't fly Southwest (no miniskirts, but then, he doesn't wear miniskirts)
B. He doesn't wear sagging pants (appears he doesn't)

His name is Howard, and he likes to fly while dressed in women’s lingerie.
That’s about all that is known of the mystery U.S. Airways passenger catapulted to international prominence this week via Internet blogs after he was photographed at Concourse E, Gate 9 of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on June 9 while waiting to board a flight to Phoenix.

Howard’s distinguishing characteristics: He smiles with his mouth closed, and he was dressed in nothing more than blue women’s lingerie, black stockings, high-heeled shoes and a tasteful, transparent white sweater. He accessorized with a black choker, and a wristwatch.
Greg Meyer, an airport spokesman, said there is no dress code that would prevent Howard or anyone else from flying in lingerie, as long as it does not compromise the safety of the flight or fellow passengers.
“There’s not a lot we can say or do,’’ Meyer said. “It’s a very diverse community, and people come in all sorts of garb.’’

The photograph of Howard, taken by a fellow passenger who said others had complained to the crew about him, sparked a mild controversy because just a few days later the same airline had another passenger removed from a flight for refusing the pilot’s orders to pull up his sagging pants.
That passenger, 20-year-old Dashon Marman, was booked on suspicion of trespassing, battery and resisting arrest. He is a football player at the University of New Mexico.
Valerie Wunder, a spokeswoman for U.S. Airways, said Marman was removed from the flight because he refused to comply with the crew’s instructions. Howard, in contrast, did no such thing.

Howard, a 65-year-old Phoenix man who spoke under condition of anonymity to The San Francisco Chronicle this week, said he frequently flies while dressed in women’s undergarments to break up the monotony of commercial flights. On the rare occasions when crews ask him to cover up, he obliges.
“Our crew is authorized to exercise discretion to ensure the comfort and safety of all our passengers,’’ said Wunder. She declined to fully identify Howard because, she said, to do so would violate his privacy, which remained intact, save for the virally-viewed photos on the Internet.

He can do what he wants as long as he doesn't hurt anyone else.

The person who actually complained about this is probably ugly, so perhaps he/she shouldn't be allowed to fly so I don't have to look at their face?

each airline should set their own policies. dress code (if any) should be clearly posted to avoid confusion.

On the bright side, they stopped serving liquor on flights. Gee... how many little bottles would it take, before UGA started trying to pick that up?

There may not be written rules against wearing something like this, but airlines are private businesses with the right to refuse service to anyone. The fact U.S. Airways allowed him to board means they either think it's hilarious or they were worried about negative public backlash had they disallowed him. Air travel be such a visible industry under a lot of pressure, my guess is it's probably the latter.

I'd rather him sit next to me than a normally dressed man or woman who, for whatever reasons, decides that a daily shower regimen, including the use of deodorant, is just not for them.

There used to be dress codes on aircraft.

Once upon a time you would be surrounded by full suits and ties, cravats, and evening gowns.

Now, if that gentleman had perhaps worn a tasteful cocktail dress, with a pretty little hat, I dont see how anyone in their right mind could complain.

But lingerie? Just not cricket.

1st... so what if the airlines is a privately owned business...it has a ton of gov. regulations that we must adhere to.

2nd. as funny as this is it is quite different from a man who wears baggy jeans and refusing to pick them up. I don't like (some) these baggy jeans wearing jokers as much as the next guy but there's no excuse for the double standard unless of course there are other sinister motives behind it. After all... if it's about the baggy jean wearer exposing his/her underwear...then for God's sake...the man in the photo above is wearing nothing but underwear (and a sweater). I guess the next time Mr. baggy jeans should just takes his pants completely off. Then he would be on equal footing with the guy above. :)

No, Mr Baggy Jeans would need blue bikini panties, not plaid boxers, under his jeans... (Photoshop, anyone???)

Hmm... sounds like a conspiracy here...

I think y'all is discriminating!

If that poor old fella looked like this, we'd be having a different conversation about rights and whatnot.. heh heh

Not not really. I'd be expecting them to cover up/ wear the appropriate clothes. Man or Woman.
My belief is that this is a symptom of an even bigger problem of Gender Identity and loss of cohesiveness as a society.
