Shotput Pro and P2 offloading

I've done a bit of "searching" and read what I've found. But, now I wanted to get some more current info regarding people using or NOT using ShotPut Pro. I worked on a show this year where they swore by it. We were shooting using the EX3 and copying the files to 3 drives simultaneously. Seemed to work like a charm. However, I was NOT involved in post so I never heard if there were any problems. My big question I guess is... is it worth buying it for $100 OR does the free program that Barry Green suggested in his "how to" work perfectly fine? What are the pros and cons? I'd love to hear from people who actually have experience with both. I'm primarily a Director and Shooter and I'm learning lots when it comes to Post and P2.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

I chime in here.

I do Finder copies with write protected cards and then I drag that copy to separate HDDs.

It's just as fast and much cheaper.

thanks david. Good to get some input. I like the idea that shotput pro makes it seem like transferring P2 cards and other formats somewhat idiot-proof. I probably will not always be the one doing the transferring so I want to have the best option out there. With in reason of course.;-) I need to decide if its worth $100 for SPP. Hmmm? Any others with experience using ShotPut Pro or not bothering with it?

unless you are copying to multiple places at once. i dont see why you'd NEED shot put pro?

it as well as the free p2cms indeed do some handy things if you NEED that particular feature (like copying to multiple locations at once or working with the metadata) but if all youre doing is transferring and editing in your own workflow, i say just drag and drop.

im like david, ive been doing simple drag and drop copying for 3+ years now without a single incident.

i find barrys mac "how to" article a little misleading and to a degree incorrect.
