Short set in England.

Excellent work, superb sound, pacing, acting, and camera work. The obvious questions: camera settings? lighting? mics used?

We had a seinheiser shotgun straight into the DVX.. dangled on a boom very close.. too many takes had the boom creeping in.

Lights.. mainly behind the actors in front of the camera but high and out of shot.. to get that edge lit look. 850W arri Fresnals.

Also lots of contrast boosting in FCP and a little magic bullet.

soundtrack was done with reason with sound effects from Hollywood Edge effects also recorded some of the guitar in garage band.

Hope that helps.. back to work for me

Nice, great sound. I did notice a lot of noise outside though but maybe you were going for that. I liked it though.

Really nice job, very engaging.

My only criticism would be at around 2:25, the sound of the footsteps has such a wide stereo feel that it seems out of character with the rest of the sound design. It takes me out of the movie for a second.

Fantastic work Beno. There's something great about a northern accent. While watching this I had an idea for another direction you could have taken the story. I think I'll make it if you dont mind....? If you trust me with it I'd could use the same gun....? - lotsofmorgz@hotmail.com

The jib over the sofa was fantastic.. was that done with a good jib or indie fix? interesting you didnt use it in other places. I especially like the shot with the kid in the foreground watching TV. The lighting was a bit over the top but it looked ace.

good stuff.. i thought the first half was very promising and had great mood to it. I wasn't amazingly keen on the narrative/shot sequencing for the last bit... its interesting that the film was a lot more powerful when the shots were lingering in the first half. This not only complimented the sound design better but also in some way it flowed better... i would have to watch it again to understand better why the boys bedroom scenes and the car scene were in my opinion weaker, maybe they just need more work and feel a little rushed.

My major gripe is that if you lost the effects (inverse frames, the whooshing noise, the speed ramps & slo mo etc.) in my opinion it would ultimately make for something more powerful. I don't think the story or the tone calls for those effects at all... it just appears like they've been put in because someone wanted to put them in either in an attempt to add power or appear contemporary. Either way, in the end it just looks like you are trying to emulate something that basically is pretty tiresome and cliche nowadays. A sudden ramp to slow-mo was amazing when Scorcese did it in say "New York Stories" but in the context here i feel it just cheapens some of the great stuff that you've done. Less is more so to speak....

As for the construction i think the boy is great and the camera work and general lighting is overall really very good.
