Short Film Musicvideo

Hi Kim,

I thought that was mostly brilliant. Superficial and yet deep at the same time.
Plus I love beautiful naked women. As a director you really evoked great
performances from your ridiculously good looking talent. There is some outstanding
cinematography here as well. I absolutely love that push in on the one photo in the gallery.
What a great shot. It's remarkable you did so much so well by yourself.

There are some humorous elements as well.
I love that when she starts taking her clothes off he puts down the old
Nikon and picks up the Contax 645. Definitely Medium Format Worthy.

I think you are also touching
on some deeper themes about the differences between men and women.
Mainly that men are superficial pigs and women are just plain crazy.
JUST JOKING!!! Or maybe not.

And this is what brings me to what I didn't like about the film.
The opening chase/stalker scene casts the Barbara character in a Glen
Close "Fatal Attraction" like light. When she later starts reading Kafka
and complaining that the photograher doesn't really see "her" it
really comes as no surprise. That's the kind of line that crazy stalker
chicks come up with.

But I'm not sure that was your point, and
I think this is doing the Barbara character a bit of an injustice.
Unless of course, that was your point, that she really is a crazy stalker girl. God knows
many of us love beautiful, naked, crazy, stalker girls.

Nevertheless, I would have much preferred
to see this open with both of them walking along the street separately,
without him looking over his shoulder (creepy), and then have her just
magically appear at the door as
he turns around. I love that jump cut as she appears in the doorway.

Now she is more mysterious and doesn't have all that stalker baggage.
So now I am back to loving it until the end. I like how she cruises past the gallery
and how she looks a little perturbed that her photos aren't covering the walls.
I found her last closeup a bit disturbing as it is a little psycho looking and I would have
liked to have seen that sequence end in that first medium shot as she is looking in
the gallery in a very endearingly ambiguous way.

Mostly, I wish he had never seen her. I wish she would have just faded away and we
could have avoided that ending which after such a refreshingly original piece comes across
as rather cliche. And I guess that means that that precious opener of them lying on the the street,
which really does look good, wouldn't make much sense, either.

Despite these heartfelt objections, I remain deeply impressed.

Yours,

Max

Thank you very much for your response Max.
It might sound strange, but I'm completely with you on the things you didn't like.
I don't like the beginning. It was planned different, but we didn't have the time to shoot the scenes that normally should have come up front. And the end is absoloutly cheesy, but its an ending what I think is imprtant to short films. But her just fading away could have been a good ending aswell, but I havn't thought of it :)
I learnd to live with imperfections. I'm always making compromises and doing things wrong, what I find out afterwards, or in the end see how I could have made it. So I'm learning a lot through my work and through input like yours.
I really appreciate it and like your ideas, that only would need small changes to give it an overall different feel.
Regards KIM

This was wonderful, it reminded me of Great Expectations for some reasons. Fantastic feel and atmosphere to the piece. Wonderful piece.

Your absoloutly right, it was written upon the scene in Great Expectations.
That was the only requirement by the singer.
Stabilizer?
Do you mean Camera Grip?
I used a shoulder Mount and a Panther Twister Dolly.
