Shooting with GH1

Yeah but for all we know that's your blog :)

I wish. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) I do have a GH1 in a shopping cart...waiting...just need to pull the trigger :kali:

The guy, Joe Shaw, has some nice stuff. The Shower Over Moon Street video that was shot with a GH1 is a nice piece of work, too. His GH1 rig is pretty cool, too.

Thanks for posting this. To clarify though - that is not my rig! Clearly not a GH1 on there. However, I did shoot the Salsa Kingdom film with the same Redrock cage, top handle setup and a shoulder mount. I used the Genus mattebox though. Out of interest I shoot with a number of cameras, depending on the job. Shot a lot of 7D lately, but the other day I was back on the GH1 and I forgot how much i love working with it. The screen is so good and the fact it swivels makes a massive difference. On a timeline with HVX200, and 7D footage together, it stands out as being by far the sharpest...

Hi Joe,

Glad you chimed in. You do nice work. Your corporate work is along the lines of what I'm working towards. The rig image was on your blog so...

I'm about to click "buy" on a GH1 I have in a shopping cart (wish the U.S. could get the red ones). The LCD viewfinder, articulating LCD screen, ability to use AF in stills and video, etc. are my reasons for it over the Canons. Other than a few faster lenses for subject isolation I don't think I'll be adding much to the GH1. The Canons seem to require more accessories to be workable for what I want to do. Then, not having a LCD viewfinder for stills is a deal breaker for my needs.

Since you're using both I'm curious of how differently you work with the 7D after the GH1.

I am also about to pull the trigger on buying a GH1 and seeing this video confirms what i have been reading- this is a very powerful camera. Great work!

What kind of old Canon primes were you using? The low-light is fantastic!

Thanks for the comments, it's really great to have some feedback.

Working with the 7D is quite different, your point about needing more accessories is true and is probably the main difference. The stuff I have done with the 7D I have religiously used a monitor with (Marshall) which was vital. Obviously the GH1 you can swivel the screen which is very good.

Regarding the Canon primes used in the Salsa Kingdom film - I used a 50mm 1.4, and a 100mm 2.8 as well as a fair amount of stock lens.
