C300: Shooting interlaced?

Hi team

I have a shoot this week for a European broadcaster. Their preference is to have footage shot in 50i. I've taken a look through my C300 MK3/2 and it's no problem to shoot 25p PAL but there's no obvious interlaced option. Is there a setting perhaps I'm missing or am I out of luck?

My understanding is that the workflow of 25p --> 50i is not a big deal anyhow?

C300/mkII: Set the System Frequency to 50Hz, the resolution to 1920x1080, then you should be able to set the frame rate to 50i.

MKIII is the same.

Much appreciated, thanks! So in other words it's not possible to do in 4K? I think that's why I wasn't seeing any option.

You're welcome and correct. UHD/4K and above are progressive scan formats, only.

I just wish they would have seized upon the same opportunity to move forward and get rid of or phase out "fractional"/non-interger frame rates.

When I stumble on interlaced footage, I always wonder: Who the hell shoots interlaced in 2020? I mean, it just looks like a faulty image on todays screens.

It just means less work for broadcasters who still transmit in 50/60i as you can go straight to air with it on live broadcasts. FTA TV is dominated by interlaced delivery. Plain fact of life that is that it is still the largest delivery medium in the world. Spectrum and available bandwidth is the other determining factor. Larry Jordan summed it up quite neatly.

Yes, I suspected this. But they could broadcast in 720p in the same standard, without the footage falling apart in motion.

Public national and the biggest private TV in Switzerland switch to 4K UHD next year. I already have a 75 inch 8K TV set, which I mainly use as PC screen. But 4K also looks great, and it gives me the best out of HD.
