Shooting in different Resolutions for the same project

Hi Guys

I have a shooting in 2 weeks and would like to ask you if this could be a problem:

I will shot some scenes of a city / buildings and some scenes a girl / close ups for slow motion.

For the city / building I will shoot at 1080p at 25fps because of the Aliasing Problem (shooting at 1080 is much better than 720p) and for the close ups 720p at 50fps so that I have more Information for slow motion.

After that I will convert all 1080p Footage to 720p, edit and render as 720p.

Do you see a problem? I don't want to shoot all in 720p because the Moire Effect is terrible on the 7D.

Let me know if you see a problem here.

Thank you.

You do NOT convert the 1080 to 720, you convert the 720 to 1080 to get your slow-mo effects & work in a 1080 timeline.... What you choose to export as is whatever you want.

Another alternative is to use a video utility to convert the 720p footage to 1080p and then just import those clips into your 1080p Vegas project as usual.

Why would you uprez to 1080 footage? Wouldn't the quality suffer? DSLR's barely resolve 720, so dropping everything to 720 will look the same as 1080 on a tv. If you are shooting for the big screen, might be different, don't know.

First and foremost what actual scientific proof do you have to show us what exact resolution these cameras resolve at? Secondly the only thing that matters is that the image quality looks good, so even if it resolved at 480 but look great that's all that matters.

Finally what you are converting is the 720p 50fps to 720p to 24fps and placing it in a 1080 timeline which will obviously make your original 720p footage stretch to 1080p. Countless videos all over the world will show you that it looks fine and is how you would mix slow-mo with regular 1080 footage. You can always export to 720 and then it would more than likely be perfect.
