GH4 Shane Hurlbut Checks Out Panasonic Glass on a GH4

I noticed in his video that he listed the GH4 as having something like 24000 iso. mine only goes to 1600.

For the pictures you can set it up to higher than 1600.
But its kinda pointless. On a dark night you can see with it well, but the quality is worth nothing.

Sees images in different way than other people ?

Okay. Not the eyes but the brain behind it. Or the eyes as the most outside extension of the brain. With this said - there is no way we all can agree on what our eyes see and how we process what they see and, most important, how we asses what they have seen. Different perception, different wiring inside the skull, different cultural backgrounds. So I do like ""special" eyes because at times they make me see things I have not seen before and/or can change my own perception and/or just remind me that other people do see things in another way that I may or may not like ..... little me, for instance, would like to have a falcon's eyes and processing power at times... ;-)

The resolution - or lack thereof - on his stills is insufficient to render a qualified opinion. They, at least, should be 4K/8.8MPX.

The same applies to his Vimeo clips.

Just some correction -sorry if it has been pointed out
Some of you guys seem to think Shane wrote the article, please note the first line

'This is David Weldon, Shane’s assistant. Welcome to the first of many gear reviews coming to the Hurlblog. A few months ago when I came on board the HV Team, Shane approached me and said, “We need to get our hands deeper into new products on the market and deliver clear and accurate reviews for our readers. I want us to show our readers what we found out in our tests, as well as showing off how to test these products.”

Keep in mind, Shane most likely hadn't tried an Epic with a dragon sensor when he was shooting with the C500. At that time, it could have been his favorite camera. Heck, 6 yrs ago, the 5d2 was one of my favorite cameras, now, it's one of my least favorite. My point is we change our opinions as technology evolves and gets better. I wouldn't call it flip flopping, more just basing opinion on whats available at the given time. What I do know, Shane has always given props to Alexa. Even when shooting the C500. Hes a passionate dude, sometimes that excitement can run rampant.

Damn, that makes me want to sell some of my olympus glass and get some Voigt

Well, of course you can do that...Might be a tad expensive.

One very important thing to keep in mind, people can percieve color and image characteristics different from others. I love Shane's work (much of "Act Of Valor" was shot with Canon 5D MkII's) and he seems to have a very particular set of standards influenced mostly by his works done on film. Many folks consider the Canons, especially the 5D MkII/MkIII models to be very close to film aesthetics.

Many complaints about m4/3 video are that the video is TOO sharp, but that's what drove me from Canon to the GH2, GH3, and now the GH4. I use both Panasonic lenses and Olympus lenses and feel both lines are easily "tamed" with diffusion. Sometimes I want my scene rendered absolutely crisp with stunning detail. The Panasonic glass and Oly glass both give me that but it only takes subtle diffusion in front of the lens and control over exposure to take care of that "clinical" edge.

Shane gets the results HE wants with the gear and glass that allows him to achieve that.

We can do the same for ourselves with the gear we've accumulated.

What makes a lens 3-d, and what makes it plastic? I have much to learn about lenses.

He is merely using those terms to describe his impressions of how those lenses render image tones. Your impressions and mine may be somewhat different. Much may depend on how we "light".
