SHAME on you Sony!

Actually, I was correct. They are utilizing existing S-Log card stock and then just repurposing the SxS cards. Didn't know anything about "program on hold." This is very distressing.

There was a Sony tweet last night by Peter Crithary saying they were running out of stock: https://twitter.com/#!/SonyProduction/status/168745971134636032

That is why I sent in my email order this morning to the Teaneck Service Center for the $899.00 upgrade, and got the response that the program was on hold. I have since asked our Washington, DC rep and he said he would run it up to management and see what was going on.

BTW Ned I enjoyed reading your article on the Sound Devices recorder but yikes 28-Watts, I had check the Sound Devices website some time ago trying to find out the power specifications to no avail.

The program is going through some issues, but If you have emailed service and got a confirmation, your still ok. You are just on a very short list. So if you still want to try, do it NOW and contact service to see if they have spaces left. This will close fast, if not already.

Thanks, Stephen for the kind words. Yes, the Pix consumes power. I have not measured battery length with screen turned off. But to me, the quality of the unit is worth preparing for extra consumption. I run it AC if available. Otherwise, I have 5 Dionic 90's and 2 Switronix L96 so that can keep me going even more than a day.

Now, back to topic.

Using my "press creds", I am able to get Sony access. Teaneck service claims to be out of parts and they do not know whether they will get any more. But I do know that management will be looking into the situation. Service told me they never expected the kind of response they received.

Thanks Ned, so it looks like I might have gotten in a little late, when I saw March 31st I thought I had some time. Makes you wonder (I can't speculate though) thanks for the reply.

I just got an email from the local rep here in the D.C. area and he confirmed that the "Program" was NOT on hold they are just waiting on more stock. Fingers Crossed!

I wonder what is going to happen when the deadline passes? New cameras will provably be sold with it included.
What would happen to the people that had the camera but for some reason couldn't get it at the time?
Would they still sell the SLOG with an sxs card?
How mush would it sell for?

I am very interested in what is going to happen after April 1 because that is when I will be looking purchase a camera.

I spoke with the Sony rep. They are trying to figure out a better rebate deal for prior purchasers of S-Log. Maybe other products.

Cool. A low cost 3d link would be nice

I mentioned getting a discount on 3D link.

He said the problem they had is there are different divisions. If they give out a big rebate card, the amount will wipe out several small items. Those divisions will essentially be producing something for free. They are trying to figure out a way around this. Possibly a percentage off of smaller items.

I spoke to the rep again and he said the core Sony people were all off work this week. He'll bring it up to them next week.
